WNT Honors Inspirational Women with Names on Back of Jerseys at SheBelieves Cup

In celebration of the SheBelieves spirit, the U.S. Women’s National Team will honor powerful, influential, iconic and inspirational women during the SheBelieves Cup match on March 2 vs. England in Nashville, Tennessee.

Each member of the U.S. WNT selected the name of a woman who has inspired them and will wear that name on the back of their jersey. The choices ranged from activists to Nobel Prize winners, to artists, athletes and trailblazers, from historic to contemporary, and features women who hail from diverse backgrounds and champion a variety of causes.

SheBelieves is a movement that originated in 2015 in the lead up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup. It was created with the goal encouraging the female leaders of tomorrow to chase their dreams. The theme of women supporting women is one the U.S. players passionately believe in, so with the SheBelieves Cup and Women’s History Month occurring concurrently, the timing is perfect for a celebration of groundbreaking women.

We asked each WNT player on the SheBelieves Cup roster why they chose their specific woman and compiled their answers below.

Strange, I just googled something and it came up with a democraticunderground.org link.

It mirrors the content of democraticunderground.com... the only difference is that I am not logged in.

Hmm?

Oregon just became the first state in the nation to impose limits on how high landlords can raise re

Source: CNN

(CNN)Oregon's governor signed the first statewide rent control bill in the country.

Among the bill's provisions is a measure restricting landlords from raising rent more than 7% above the Consumer Price Index in a 12-month period. An exception applies to buildings that have been occupied fewer than 15 years.

The bill, which passed 35-25 in the Oregon House earlier this week, also provides renters protections against no-cause evictions.

"This legislation will provide some immediate relief to Oregonians struggling to keep up with rising rents and a tight rental market," Gov. Kate Brown said Thursday. "But it does not work alone. It will take much more to ensure that every Oregonian, in communities large and small, has access to housing choices that allow them and their families to thrive."

About a dozen trees cut, dumped into Potomac River at Trump golf club in Virginia

About a dozen mature trees and additional shrubs were cut down and dumped into the Potomac River from Trump National Golf Course property last week, an action that Loudoun County officials say could violate local ordinances covering work on floodplains.

The downed trees were spotted last Saturday by Steven Mckone, director of the Calleva River School, as he kayaked the river and turned into the George Washington Canal, a bypass often used by boaters to avoid a dam that blocks the river. Tree trunks, limbs and branches clogged the smaller passage.

“It was very fresh, the sawdust wasn’t even wet yet,” Mckone said. “Normally when people remove trees, they take the trees out, but these were dumped right in the river.”

Trees in a waterway can create dangerous conditions, where currents can pull watercraft into the branches, then trap boaters underwater in what is known as a strainer effect. In addition, trees along river banks are among the best ways to protect water quality and aquatic life, and prevent erosion, environmentalists say.

Contradicting Trump, Otto Warmbier's parents blame North Korean leader Kim Jung Un for the death of

Source: NBC News

The parents of Otto Warmbier issued a blistering statement on Friday saying Kim Jong Un and his government "are responsible for unimaginable cruelty and inhumanity" after President Donald Trump asserted that the North Korean dictator was unaware of the harrowing treatment the student endured while detained there.

"We have been respectful during this summit process. Now we must speak out. Kim and his evil regime are responsible for the death of our son Otto," Fred and Cindy Warmbier said in a blistering statement. "Kim and his evil regime are responsible for unimaginable cruelty and inhumanity. No excuses or lavish praise can change that."

Warmbier, 22, was arrested for taking a propaganda banner from a hotel while on a visit to Pyongyang in January 2016. The University of Virginia student from Ohio was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor, but was released after 17 months. He died shortly after he returned to the U.S.

His parents were told he had been in a coma since not long after he was sentenced. When he was brought back to Cincinnati after his release, his father said he "was jerking violently making these inhuman sounds.”
