Lee calls Hillsdale College's approach to teaching civics "informed patriotism."
But the colleges' own teaching materials reveal why critics say its approach is anything but informed. For example, Hillsdale falsely claims that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. did not favor using the "force of law" to achieve civil rights victories.
"This curriculum has a political bent to it," said Nashville historian David Ewing, who reviewed the materials at NewsChannel 5's request.

Herschel Walker pulls out of Greene event after her speech at white nationalist conference
Georgia Republican Senate candidate and former NFL star Herschel Walker is backing out of a planned speech at an event organized by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) after she attended a white nationalist conference.
Walker, the frontrunner in the GOP primary to challenge Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), was previously slated to speak at Greene’s “Second Amendment and Freedom Rally” in Rome, Ga. on Saturday. His campaign confirmed on Tuesday that he will no longer address the event.
Walker's decision was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The rally is still expected to draw several other high-profile Republicans, including Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), who’s challenging Gov. Brian Kemp in Georgia’s gubernatorial primary, and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), a far-right Florida congressman and close ally of Greene.

60 million barrels of oil to be released from global strategic reserves amid war

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — All 31 member countries of the International Energy Agency have agreed to release 60 million barrels of oil from their strategic reserves “to send a strong message to oil markets” that there will be “no shortfall in supplies” as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the group said Tuesday.
The IEA board made the decision at an extraordinary meeting of energy ministers chaired by U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. Besides the United States, other members of the organization include Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Japan and Canada.
IEA members hold emergency stockpiles of 1.5 billion barrels of oil. The release amounts to 4% of stockpiles, or roughly 2 million barrels per day for 30 days.
“The situation in energy markets is very serious and demands our full attention,” IEA executive director Fatih Birol said. “Global energy security is under threat, putting the world economy at risk during a fragile stage of the recovery.”
