Dear Sen. Flake: Check Your White Male Privilege

Michigan woman and her dog unwittingly attend furry convention and adorable hilarity ensues

Source: Metro Times

Sometimes the internet is a wonderful place.

Especially, when we find Monroe resident Cheryl Wassus and her therapy-dog-in-training, Link, attended a furry convention under the assumption it was an event geared towards pets and pet owners.

Boy, were they wrong.

The best part? The Furry Con raised $10,000 for Pets for Vets while Wassus and Link got a crash course on a subculture they likely never knew existed.

How a Detroit bus driver named 'Boo-Yah' brightens passengers' days

Source: Metro Times

That sort of interaction inspired a few local videographers to zoom in on welcoming, friendly DDOT bus driver Larry Dennis Starkey. He's the subject of the inaugural video on their fledgling YouTube channel, No Angles. The video features Starkey telling how he got saddled with the moniker "Boo Yah" and turned around and adopted it as a nickname. These days, "Boo Yah" cheers up passengers on the 53 Woodward bus, where he thinks of himself as a modern-day "stagecoach operator" — one who aspires to be "the best driver out there on the streets." Have a look:

Ohio police officer filmed stamping on black man's head as he lies handcuffed on pavement

Source: IBT

Brutal footage of an Ohio policeman stamping on a young black man's head as he lies handcuffed on the pavement has been published online. The offending Columbus officer is now under investigation.

The two minute clip – filmed and uploaded on Saturday 8 April – shows Officer Zachary Rosen charging up to restrained suspect DeMarco Anderson and violently trampling his head into the ground during an incident in Columbus, Ohio.

Prior to the attack, Anderson can be seen lying face down on the pavement handcuffed and held down by another officer. He is not resisting arrest and the situation is under control.

Seemingly unprovoked, Zachary then charges in from off-screen and smashes the young man's head against the pavement, which can be seen at the start of the video.

CNN panel goes hilariously off the rails as conservative defends Trump spending taxpayer millions to

Source: Raw Story

During a CNN discussion on President Donald Trump’s obsession with flying off to his Mar-a-Lago resort every weekend to play golf — at tremendous expense to taxpayers — conservative Ben Ferguson attempted to mount a defense as the whole panel laughed at his feeble excuses.

“We crunched the numbers and found that president has spent six weekends and a total of 21 days at Mar-a-Lago, the total cost of those trips around $21.6 million,” host Don Lemon recited to kick off the discussion.

“Just for pure numbers sake,” CNN contributor Bakari Sellers chipped in, “in the first 81 days of office, President Obama went to the golf course course zero times. Let’s talk about the fiscal accountability or lack thereof and the fact is Trump is on a pace to spend more money traveling in his first year,” Sellers continued before Lemon cut him off.

“We heard so much from Donald Trump about President Obama going to the gold course course and playing and look that: 17 times Obama zero times,” Lemon explained. “If you don’t see the hypocrisy in that, then you don’t want to see it, you’re blind.”

Trump on pace to surpass 8 years of Obama's travel spending in 1 year

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump's travel to his private club in Florida has cost over an estimated $20 million in his first 80 days as president, putting the president on pace in his first year of office to surpass former President Barack Obama's spending on travel for his entire eight years.

The outsized spending on travel stands in stark relief to Trump's calls for belt tightening across the federal government and the fact that he regularly criticized Obama for costing the American taxpayer money every time he took a trip.

Given variations in each trip, estimating the security costs around a presidential trip is difficult. But a 2016 Government Accountability Office report about a four-day trip Obama took to Florida in 2013 -- one similar to Trump's trips -- found the total cost to the Secret Service and Coast Guard was $3.6 million.

To date, Trump has spent six weekends -- and a total of 21 days -- at Mar-A-Lago, his private Palm Beach club. The total estimated costs for those trips are around $21.6 million.

Florida sheriff cuts tough-guy video with masked SWAT team

Guilty people aren’t the only ones who should fear nighttime raids.

Or maybe not. Police departments use the aggressive paramilitary tactics Grinnell boasts of here thousands of times per year. And in many cases, they simply take the wrong door.

Maybe the information was bad. Maybe the information was good but officers went to a different house by mistake. Either way, no-knock raids and dead-of-night “dynamic entry” tactics have become notorious in recent years precisely because they often terrorize innocent people. Grinnell’s show of force and grim threats of nighttime police raids ignore a raft of evidence that these tactics are misapplied.

From 2010 to 2016, the New York Times found, at least 81 civilians and 13 cops have been killed in “dynamic entry” raids, oftentimes after police obtained a “no-knock” warrant allowing them to bust in a door and go in heavy without warning.

Most such raids, regardless of the type of warrant, are conducted in the wee hours of the night in hopes of catching residents off guard. The consequences of that approach can be tragic when police are acting on bad information, as they did in Georgia in a 2014 raid where one cop tossed a flashbang into a baby’s crib and blew a hole in the 19–month-old’s chest, nearly killing him.
