1911- A Trip Through New York City
Old film of New York City in the year 1911. Print has survived in mint condition. Slowed down footage to a natural rate and added in sound for ambiance. This film was taken by the Swedish company Svenska Biografteatern on a trip to America

Last year, my wife was serving on the fundraising committee of my daughter's public charter school in DC. One day, out of the blue, she received an email from someone claiming to represent a socially responsible private equity firm in the UK. 2/10
This "UK person" said "she" was flying to DC soon and wanted to have coffee with my wife to discuss the possibility of including my daughter's school in their educational fund network. 3/10
This was not a generic "Nigerian prince" scam. This person had all sorts of specific information on my wife's volunteer duties at an obscure DC elementary school. 4/10
There was a website for the firm (which no longer exists, by the way), but it had no depth to it, and there was no detailed information about the "UK person" who reached out to my wife. 5/10
My wife shared the email with me and a few people we know in both the finance and education fields. All agreed that the entire scenario seemed implausible and seemed like an approach by a foreign intelligence entity. 6/10
To test the implausibility, my wife kept trying to encourage the "UK person" over email to meet with other school fundraising officers & leadership while "she" was in DC, providing relevant contact info. But the "UK person" kept insisting that "she" had to meet with my wife. 7/10
At that point, my wife stopped corresponding.
This all happened in late May and early June of last year. 8/10
Perhaps it was just a coincidence that this obvious scam targeting my family had all the hallmarks of an intel op and coincided with Team Trump's reported efforts to "dig up dirt" on me. 9/10
But the fact that I even have to think about the possibility that my family was targeted by people working for the President is yet another sign of the fundamental degradation of our country that Trump has produced. 10/10
[THREAD] According to this story, in May of last year, Team Trump asked an Israeli intel firm to dig

This Woman Is on the Verge of Breaking Down One of the Biggest Gender Barriers in Sports
Becky Hammon is interviewing to become the first female head coach in the NBA.Source: Mother Jones
The National Basketball Association just got one step closer to breaking down a big gender barrier.
There has never been a woman head coach in mens professional basketball. But ESPN reports that the Milwaukee Bucks are interviewing Becky Hammon for their top coaching job, making her the first woman to be interviewed for an NBA head coach position.
Hammon is already the first woman to serve as an assistant coach in the NBA. She became an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs when she retired from her 14-year playing career in 2014. In 2015, she proved critics of the Spurs hiring move wrong when she led the teams summer league to a championship.
A New Yorker profile last month catalogued the barriers and sexism Hammon faces on the sidelinesespecially from talk show radio and social media. A reporter asked Hammon at her first press conference about an anonymous e-mail that called [her hiring] a publicity stunt, and suggested that the only thing the players had to learn from her was advice on baking cookies. Hammon responded, At the end of the day, you have to say, So whats the truth in that? Is that true? No, its not. So I have no comment to thatother than, I make good chocolate-chip cookies. Thats a fact.

Even Don Jr. Wants to Know How Much Vanessa Trump Made from Her Family's Marinara Sauce Fortune
The Trump divorce just got a lot saucier.Source: Vanity Fair
Vanessa Trump has recently come into some money (no, not from Donald Trump Jr.). According to Page Six, Vanessas father, Charles Haydon, had invested upward of $1 million into Raos Speciality Foods, a business started by Frank Pellegrino Sr. and Ron Straci to sell the restaurants famous marinara sauce. In 2017, the company sold for $415 million and Vanessas mother, Bonnie Haydon, purchased a penthouse previously owned by Roger Ailes on Fifth Avenue for $6.4 million, paying in cash.
While Vanessa and Donald Trump Jr.s divorce was listed as uncontested, Donald Jr. filed a motion in a Manhattan Supreme Court to receive a statement on how much Vanessa is currently worth. Finances were rumored to be a stressor in the Trump marriage, with Donalds frugality driving a wedge between the couple.
He gives her very little help and has been keeping her on a tight budget, one source told Page Six back in March. She doesnt live a lavish life and can very rarely pick up a check at dinner.
The Trump divorce took over the tabloids when it was first announced in mid-March. The rumors of money concerns were followed by reports that Donald had cheated on Vanessa with Celebrity Apprentice star Aubrey ODay (who, upon further inspection, was not keeping the affair that much of a secret). More reports revealed that the divorce had been a long time coming.

Hat tip to Ellen's!
Dallas restaurant serves up message to NRA visitors
With the National Rifle Association in town for the weekend, restaurateur Joe Groves has a message for its members: He wants your business.
But also, he'd like you to contribute to a cause he believes in.
Customers who visit Ellen's in the West End over the weekend will be greeted with a message when they get their receipts:
"Thanks for visiting Ellen's! A portion of this week's proceeds will be donated to organizations dedicated to implementing reasonable and effective gun regulations. Welcome to Dallas!"
...
"I'm making a list of the vile, racist, moronic conversations overheard from NRA attendees eating at the restaurant," Groves said on Facebook. "They don't even speak softly."
When commenters on Facebook asked for examples, Groves said, "Here's a preview: 'You don't sound black. You know, the reason we need our guns is because of the blacks. Are you from India or something?' said to our AA manager."
Visitors also asked Hispanic servers, "Do you keep your illegals in the back?" and asked other employees, "What do you think about Obama?" Groves told The Dallas Morning News on Friday.
"There was definitely a constituency there and they had no qualms about speaking up," Groves said. "It was just demoralizing."
