Bipartisan House duo unveil amendment to block Iran strike without Congress' approval

Source: The Hill

A bipartisan pair of congressmen, including a vocal ally of President Trump, on Tuesday unveiled a measure to prevent the president from conducting a military strike against Iran without congressional approval.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) amendment, offered by Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), would prohibit funding for U.S. military action against Iran unless Congress has declared war or enacted another specific statutory authorization.

“Last week, we watched President Trump come within minutes of striking Iran and involving the United States in yet another trillion-dollar war in the Middle East,” Khanna said in a statement. “President Trump campaigned on ending costly wars overseas, but given the advisors he chose and his recent risky actions, he is not living up to that promise.”

Gaetz, who frequently backs the president, added that “Congress must resolve” to make sure any conflict with Iran is initiated within the constraints of the Constitution.

Man dies by electrocution in Livonia, hospital revives him 20 minutes later

Michael Pruitt was working outside April 30 when he was electrocuted, resulting in the untimely death of the 20-year-old Taylor resident.

But after 20 minutes, doctors at Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills had him back on this side of reality.

Pruitt had been working outside on a job in Livonia with his father when a metal ladder he was carrying hit a live wire, electrocuting him.

“I remember being electrocuted while holding that ladder and shaking, and then nothing,” Pruitt said in a press release.

Livonia Fire and Rescue was on the scene after four minutes, and paramedics performed what they hoped would be life-saving CPR and defibrillation.

But, Pruitt died before he made it to the hospital.

Buttigieg responds to anger over South Bend violence: 'We have not done enough'

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg said on Monday that he has not done enough to create a more just system for people of color in South Bend, Ind., where he serves as mayor, amid a backlash from African Americans in the wake of a police shooting of a black man.

Buttigieg said in a statement released by his 2020 campaign that his "heart was broken."

"It was a painful but needed conversation," Buttigieg said of a town hall late Sunday that grew increasingly heated as black residents questioned his handling of racism in the city's police force. "And I feel overwhelmed and heartened by the number of people – supporters and critics – who have reached out and made it clear over the past week that they want to join hands and face these problems together."

The town hall was held a week after Eric Logan, a black man, was killed by a police sergeant. During the town hall, Buttigieg said he took responsibility for the incident.

In Monday's statement, he said the "many well-intentioned steps we have taken, locally and across the country, have not succeeded."

"We have not done enough,” Buttigieg added.

However...

Did @Oregon_GOP think nobody would notice?

Here's a side by side of "the heavily armed militia laying siege" outside the Capitol to prevent a vote on a climate change bill vs the actual timber industry workers calmly protesting logging restrictions.
