De Blasio wants 'Black Lives Matter' mural painted in front of Trump Tower: report

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio wants the city to paint a Black Lives Matter mural on the street in front of Trump Tower, according to a report.

A source told the New York Post the mural would be painted on Fifth Avenue, between 56th and 57th streets, while claiming that the mayor “is doing it to antagonize the president.”

The plan has already been “finalized,” another source told the outlet. The mural “will be stenciled outside Trump Tower… sometime before July 4th weekend,” the outlet reported.

New York City is already painting “Black Lives Matter” murals on streets in each of the five boroughs as part of an initiative de Blasio announced earlier this month.

Detroit police arrest wrong Black man based on facial recognition technology error, ACLU says

A 42-year-old Black man said Detroit police unjustly arrested him after facial recognition technology incorrectly flagged him as a shoplifting suspect.

Robert Williams was arrested in January at his home in Farmington Hills in front of his wife and two young daughters and locked up for 30 hours. He was accused of stealing watches from Shinola.

While in jail, police showed him two blurry surveillance photos of the suspect.

“This is not me,” Williams recalls saying in a video about his arrest. “I hope you all don’t think all Black people look alike.”

He said one of the officers responded, “The computer must have gotten it wrong.”

It wasn't until later that night that Williams was released from jail, his attorney, Victoria Burton-Harris, said.

The charges have been dismissed.

“But the damage is done, Burton-Harris, who is running for Wayne County prosecutor, wrote in an op-ed for the ACLU on Wednesday. "Robert’s DNA sample, mugshot, and fingerprints — all of which were taken when he arrived at the detention center — are now on file. His arrest is on the record. Robert’s wife, Melissa, was forced to explain to his boss why Robert wouldn’t show up to work the next day. Their daughters can never un-see their father being wrongly arrested and taken away — their first real experience with the police.”

The World's Oldest Known Golden Retriever Celebrates Her 20th Birthday And She's Still Surprisingly

The World’s Oldest Known Golden Retriever Celebrates Her 20th Birthday And She’s Still Surprisingly Healthy

Golden Retrievers are some of the purest dogs imaginable. Everything from their friendly personality to their majestic gold fur screams let me hug you, you’re so adorable! and makes people melt at the mere sight of them.

Let us melt your heart even more. A Golden Retriever named August from Oakland, Tennessee has been in the news lately because she’s celebrating her 20th birthday—in context, she’s currently the oldest known living Golden Retriever, according to a post by GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue.

Meet August, or Augie as she’s sometimes affectionately referred to. She’s a Golden Retriever born on April 24, 2000, and during her life, she has been rehomed twice before she eventually found her furever home in Oakland, Tennessee along with her two human companions, Steve and Jennifer.

Augie was 14 when she was adopted for the last time. Most tend not to adopt Golden Retrievers at such an age, as a typical lifespan of such a dog is 10 to 12 years. Knowing well enough that she’s an aged dog, the couple adopted her anyway.

Little did they know that she would continue living for another 6 years to reach a very venerable age of 20, and will become the first known Golden Retriever to grow that old.

NEW: @DeutscheBank offered the Trump Org a break on payments on its loans tied to properties...

NEW: @DeutscheBank offered the Trump Org a break on payments on its loans tied to properties including the Doral golf resort.

The Trump Org *rejected* the bank's offer as insufficient. with @EricLiptonNYT @SteveEder et al.
nytimes.com/2020/06/23/us/…

Deutsche Bank offered @Trump basically the same modest break on loan payments that it offered to other struggling borrowers. One reason is that DB execs are extremely worried about attracting any more public attention to their longstanding relationship with @realDonaldTrump.

If they give a financial break to the president's company, will DB seem to be currying favor with an administration that regulates it and is criminally investigating it for money laundering?

Remember: If Trump defaults on his loans, DB can try to seize his personal assets.

Hanging over all of this is the Supreme Court's decision in @realDonaldTrump v. @DeutscheBank.

Depending on that ruling, the bank could instantly go from being Trump's loyal longstanding ally to being one of his most dangerous enemies.

A ruling is due any day now.

More detail on what @DeutscheBank was offering @Trump, which had sought relief on loan payments:

- Trump Org could skip at least a few monthly payments on at least some of its DB loans, including Doral

- It would eventually have to repay the loans in full

Trump Org said no.

To appreciate the rich irony here, remember what happened in Nov. 2008.

DB refused to extend the imminent due date on a big loan for Trump's Chicago skyscraper.

Trump sued. He claimed the financial crisis was a contract-voiding act of God and that DB had caused the crisis. 1/2

The lawsuit was eventually settled, but DB stopped doing business with Trump for a few years because he had publicly burned them.

The relationship resumed in 2012. DB agreed to lend Trump nearly $200m for the Doral and to repay a portion of the defaulted Chicago loan.

I'm reminded now of DB's response to Trump's 2008 lawsuit. The bank quoted from one of Trump's books in which he boasted about stiffing his lenders.

Here's the relevant passage in Dark Towers.

Inverted City Beneath Clouds

Explanation: How could that city be upside-down? The city, Chicago, was actually perfectly right-side up. The long shadows it projected onto nearby Lake Michigan near sunset, however, when seen in reflection, made the buildings appear inverted. This fascinating, puzzling, yet beautiful image was captured by a photographer in 2014 on an airplane on approach to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. The Sun can be seen both above and below the cloud deck, with the latter reflected in the calm lake. As a bonus, if you look really closely -- and this is quite a challenge -- you can find another airplane in the image, likely also on approach to the same airport.

Report: Michigan hospitals shorted $130K per COVID-19 patient in federal aid

It was meant to be a financial booster shot, a way to help hospitals and health care systems survive the economic onslaught that COVID-19 brought.

But a new report analyzing how federal coronavirus relief money was distributed shows stark disparities in which states got the biggest portions of $175 billion in aid from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Hospitals in the states hardest hit by the virus in March and April — New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania — got the least amount of federal support per patient, according to a 17-page report released Tuesday by U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, a Michigan Democrat and ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

States with the fewest cases got the most federal aid per confirmed case of COVID-19.

Michigan got almost $130,000 less per patient than the national average, according to the report, which analyzed CARES Act funds and coronavirus case counts as of April 10.

While the national average in federal assistance per patient was $160,286, Michigan’s allotment was just $31,045 per patient.
