The TiVo presidency: Trump relives Trump

Like an NFL coach reviewing game film, President Trump likes to watch replays of his debate and rally performances. But instead of looking for weaknesses in technique or for places to improve, Trump luxuriates in the moments he believes are evidence of his brilliance.

Behind the scenes: Trump commentates as he watches, according to sources who've sat with him and viewed replays on his TiVo, which is pre-loaded with his favorites on the large TV in the private dining room adjoining the Oval Office. When watching replays, Trump will interject commentary, reveling in his most controversial lines. "Wait for it. ... See what I did there?" he'll say.

"People think it's easy," Trump said in one riff about rally footage, per a source with direct knowledge. "I've been doing this a long time now and people are used to it, every rally, it's like, people have said P.T. Barnum. People have said that before. And they think that's easy, because hey, P.T. Barnum, he does the circus. ... They don't realize, it's a lot of work. It's not easy."

In the early weeks of the administration, Trump loved to relive his debate performances against Hillary Clinton. His favorite, according to sources with direct knowledge, was the St. Louis debate after the Access Hollywood tape leaked, when the Trump team invited Bill Clinton's sexual misconduct accusers as their guests in the live audience.

Facebook follows Apple and Spotify, deletes Infowars pages

Source: Axios

Facebook has removed four Pages on its platform run by controversial conservative site Infowars and its leader Alex Jones. Apple and Spotify have also removed Infowars content over the past week for violating their conduct policies.

Why it matters: Facebook has thus far refused to ban Infowars on the grounds of free speech, but now says it's taking action against the company for repeatedly posting content over the past several days that breaks the platform's Community Standards.

Facebook finally took action Monday because it says the Infowars content broke its standards by "repeatedly" posting hate speech that "attacks or dehumanizes" others.

Facebook won’t publicly say how many pieces of nefarious content a Page or person needs to post before being removed — out of fear that it could lead bad actors to abuse the system. Infowars, it seems, has met its threshold.

U.S. Senator Invites Russian Lawmakers to Washington for Talks

Source: Bloomberg

U.S. Senator Rand Paul said he invited Russian lawmakers to Washington, after talks in Moscow that his hosts called a signal to President Donald Trump of a desire to build ties.

Paul told reporters Monday that he issued the invitation at a meeting with members of the international relations committee of Russia’s upper house of parliament, including the chairman, Konstantin Kosachyov, and Sergey Kislyak, the former Russian ambassador to the U.S.

The Republican lawmaker, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, “has access” to Trump and top U.S. officials “and we expect that we will be able to convey through him our signals” of a desire to establish dialogue, Kosachyov said, according to the state-run RIA Novosti news service. The visit to Washington may take place before the end of the year, he said.

A bipartisan group of senators introduced legislation last week to impose “crushing sanctions” on Russia for interfering in U.S. elections, amid warnings that November’s midterm elections may be targeted. Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign, after the U.S. intelligence community concluded that President Vladimir Putin ordered efforts to undermine Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and aid Trump. The Senate is also probing the alleged meddling.

Michelle Obama announces week of action to sign up voters

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — Michelle Obama is marking the 53rd anniversary of the Voting Rights Act by urging Americans to participate in a week of action to get people signed up to vote.

The former first lady, a co-chairwoman of a nonpartisan organization to encourage voting, announced Monday that the When We All Vote Week of Action will be held Sept. 22-29.

She said members of When We All Vote will be traveling the country to register voters and get them excited about the November midterm elections, when Democrats hope to capitalize on a wave of anger against President Donald Trump and take back control of Congress from the Republicans.

“With so much at stake in our country, sitting on the sidelines isn’t an option,” Mrs. Obama said in an email to supporters.

Apple Is Removing Alex Jones And Infowars' Podcasts From iTunes

Source: BuzzFeed News

Apple has removed the entire library for five of Infowars' six podcasts from its iTunes and Podcast apps, BuzzFeed News has learned. Among the podcasts, which were removed from Apples' iTunes directory, are the show "War Room" as well as the popular Alex Jones Show podcast, which is hosted daily by the prominent conspiracy theorist.

Following the move, Spotify and Facebook have also acted to remove content made by Jones.

Apple's decision to remove all episodes of Jones' popular show — rather than just specific offending episodes — is one of the largest enforcement actions intended to curb conspiratorial news content by a technology company to date. Apple did not host Jones's shows, but it offered an index that allowed anyone with an iPhone to find and subscribe to them. Though Apple is far from Jones and Infowars' only distribution platform, the decision to pull Jones' content will considerably limit the outlet's audio reach — as of 2018, Apple's Podcasts platform amassed 50 billion all-time downloads and streams.

In a statement Sunday evening to BuzzFeed News, Apple confirmed that it notified Jones of the decision to remove the five shows under its hate speech guidelines earlier this weekend. "Apple does not tolerate hate speech, and we have clear guidelines that creators and developers must follow to ensure we provide a safe environment for all of our users," a company spokesperson said. "Podcasts that violate these guidelines are removed from our directory making them no longer searchable or available for download or streaming. We believe in representing a wide range of views, so long as people are respectful to those with differing opinions.”

Trump: Environmental laws making California wildfires 'so much worse'

Source: The Hill

President Trump appeared on Sunday to place blame for massive wildfires in California on the state's environmental laws, including its water and forest management policies, saying that such regulations have made the blazes "so much worse."

"California wildfires are being magnified & made so much worse by the bad environmental laws which aren’t allowing massive amount of readily available water to be properly utilized," Trump tweeted. "It is being diverted into the Pacific Ocean. Must also tree clear to stop fire spreading!"

I swear to dog, the world is upside down (Bill Kristol):

I’ve been looking at some polling crosstabs and I’ve got to say to my fellow white men over 55: You’re a great disappointment to me. On the other hand it seems fitting and consistent with the American story that women, minorities and young people now step up to save the republic.

I reluctantly appreciate any voice that attempts to take down the Tangeranus, except Richard Painter as he threatens a true Dem's seat (no comment on the people who made that situation a possibility).
