Federal government files new regulations that will impact way migrant families are treated

The federal government is seeking to end court oversight of how it treats immigrant children, more than 20 years after a landmark lawsuit over mistreatment of children in the nation’s immigration system.

The proposal to end a judge’s oversight of the Flores agreement, as it’s known, comes as federal officials report that more than 500 immigrant children remain separated from their parents in the wake of President Donald Trump’s “zero-tolerance” policy.

In a news conference on Friday, child detention experts and a lawyer from the Flores legal team raised concerns that the administration’s new regulations could overturn fundamental standards of care required in the federal agreement.

“The administration is planning its next step, which we believe will result in even more suffering and trauma for children,” said Ai-jen Poo, a leader of the Families Belong Together Coalition. “By dismantling long-standing child protection under the Flores settlement agreement and implementing regulations in its place, the Trump administration is seeking to expand its power to jail families for longer in worse conditions and lock children indefinitely.

Mollie Tibbetts's father thanks Latino community for help in search for her

Source: The Hill

The father of Mollie Tibbetts, the Iowa college student who was allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant, thanked the local Hispanic community on Sunday for the support they offered while he searched for his daughter.

"The Hispanic community are Iowans. They have the same values as Iowans," Rob Tibbetts said while delivering a eulogy for his daughter during her funeral, according to The Des Moines Register.

"As far as I'm concerned, they're Iowans with better food."

Rob Tibbetts made the comments a little over a month after Mollie Tibbetts, 20, went missing. Her body was found last Tuesday, and Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, is charged with murder in her death.

Arizona GOP Senate candidate compares political correctness to cancer days after McCain's death

Arizona GOP Senate candidate Kelli Ward compared political correctness to cancer on Monday, just two days after Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) died of brain cancer.

“Political correctness is like a cancer!” Ward tweeted.

McCain, who was a six-term United States senator from Arizona, died Saturday following a year-long battle with the disease. He was 81.

Ward sparked criticism earlier Saturday when she suggested that a Friday statement issued by McCain’s family about discontinuing treatment for his cancer was intended to hurt her campaign.

Evil asshole.

Another slap in the face to John McCain (flag):

Barbara Starr✔

Just one day later, at the Pentagon, headquarters of the @DeptofDefense military and @USNavy he loved, the flag is flying business as usual, awaiting @realDonaldTrump or Secretary Mattis, or the Navy to decide US goverment and military/Navy installations should lower in respect.

APNewsBreak: Nation's top student loan official resigns

Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — The top government official overseeing the $1.5 trillion student loan market resigned Monday, citing what he says is the White House’s open hostility toward protecting nation’s millions of student loan borrowers.

Seth Frotman will be stepping down from his position as student loan ombudsman at the end of the week, according to his resignation letter which was obtained by The Associated Press. He held that position since 2016.

Frotman is the latest high-level departure from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau since Mick Mulvaney, President Donald Trump’s budget director who has been also acting director of the bureau, took over in late November.

Under Mulvaney, the bureau has scaled back its enforcement work and has proposed revising or rescinding all of the rules and regulations it put into place under the Obama administration. Mulvaney downgraded the mission of Frotman’s student loan office and moved it the umbrella of consumer education instead of enforcement.

Mollie Tibbetts would be alive today if America enforced federal immigration law.

Destino - Walt Disney & Salvador Dal [1945 - 2003]

Destino is an animated short film released in 2003 by Walt Disney Feature Animation1. Destino is unique in that its production originally began in 1945, 58 years before its eventual completion. The project was originally a collaboration between Walt Disney and Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, and features music written by Mexican songwriter Armando Domínguez and performed by Mexican singer Dora Luz. It was included in the Animation Show of Shows in 2003.

The seven-minute short follows the story of Chronos and his ill-fated love for a mortal woman named Dahlia.[1] The story continues as Dahlia dances through surreal scenery inspired by Dalí's paintings. There is no dialogue, but the soundtrack includes music by the Mexican composer Armando Dominguez. The 17-second original footage that is included in the finished product is the segment with the two tortoises (this original footage is referred to in Bette Midler's host sequence for The Steadfast Tin Soldier in Fantasia 2000, as an "idea that featured baseball as a metaphor for life" ).

Children made up story about white man urinating on black child: police

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- A story about a white man urinating on a 5-year-old black child and calling her a racial slur was fabricated, police said.

Grand Rapids police and prosecutors late Friday, Aug. 24 said they determined the story was not valid and said no charges would be issued against a 60-year-old man arrested following the initial report on Wednesday.

Police said several children, all 7 or younger, were playing together sometime before 6 p.m. Wednesday when one of the children urinated on the 5-year-old girl.

Kent County prosecutors said the parents of the children, in talking with them, ultimately determined the children "concocted the story to avoid trouble."
