The Cobb County School District said Tuesday it’s halted the rollout of a new logo for an elementary school after parents pointed out similarities to Nazi iconography.

The logo for East Side Elementary in Marietta depicted an eagle, the school’s mascot, over the initials ES. The Nazi eagle, which was developed in the 1920s and later became a symbol for white supremacists worldwide, depicts an eagle holding a swastika in its talons.

Parents were notified of the new logo on Monday. It was chosen to “represent the eagle soaring into excellence and to honor the history of our great school,” the message to parents said. The district has been working with all schools to create logos, the message said.

The logo drew condemnation on social media.

A Boblo Island documentary is heading to theaters.

"Boblo Boats: A Detroit Ferry Tale" will dock in area theaters beginning Sept. 16, reps for the film announced Monday.

Directed by Aaron Schillinger, the film explores the history of the former Detroit River amusement park, the ferries that would take passengers there and the still-ongoing fight to preserve those ferries. It features narration from Motown legend Martha Reeves, who gives voice to one of the Boblo steamboats, the SS Columbia.

The doc also addresses the story of Sarah Elizabeth Ray, the civil rights pioneer who in 1945 forced the integration of Boblo Island. Ray's case, which stemmed from discrimination she faced on one of the boats while en route to the park, reached all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Sen. Bernie Sanders on Sunday pulled no punches when attacking Sen. Joe Manchin, accusing him of “intentionally sabotaging the president’s agenda” and blocking “what the American people want.”

Manchin this week announced his refusal to support two major provisions in President Biden’s economic package: tax increases on the rich and spending on initiatives to stave off climate change. It likely marked the nail in the coffin for Biden’s and Democrats’ vision of a transformative economic package — a vision that the party has continually revised and pared back in a failed bid to win Manchin’s support.

Sanders was so mad, he opted not wait for journalist Martha Raddatz to finish her question, balking at the framing.

“Sen. Joe Manchin, of course, abruptly pulled the plug this week on the Democrats’ plans to pass,” Raddatz began.

“No, Martha. Let me respectfully disagree. He didn’t abruptly do anything,” Sanders interjected during a Sunday appearance on ABC’s This Week. “He has sabotaged the president’s agenda. … Six months ago, I made it clear that you have people like Manchin — [and] Sinema, to a lesser degree — who are intentionally sabotaging the president’s agenda, what the American people want, what a majority of us in the Democratic caucus want. Nothing new about this.”
