Trump urged Sarah Sanders to 'take one for the team' after Kim Jong-un winked at her

President Donald Trump urged Sarah Huckabee Sanders to “take one for the team” after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un appeared to wink at her during a 2018 summit.

The former White House press secretary revealed the interaction in her forthcoming memoir, “Speaking for Myself,” which The Guardian obtained and reported on.

“Kim Jong-un hit on you!” Trump told his press secretary, according to the book. “He did! He fucking hit on you!”

Sanders said the wink came as Trump and Kim talked about sports, including women’s soccer, and she looked up to see the North Korean leader starting at her.

Michigan lawmaker wants to scrap license plate tabs to shorten lines at Secretary of State

A Republican lawmaker is suggesting Michigan should do away with physical vehicle plate tabs to save money and shorten wait times at Secretary of State offices - but state police are concerned the move would make it harder to determine whether a driver’s registration is up-to-date on the road.

If signed into law, legislation sponsored by state Rep. Matt Maddock, R-Milford Township, would remove the requirement that drivers place a sticker tab on their license plate each year to signify registration.

Drivers would also no longer have to carry a paper or electronic copy of their registration certificate in their vehicle to show law enforcement if pulled over — police officers would be required to search the driver’s information on the Law Enforcement Information Network instead.

In testimony to the House Transportation Committee Tuesday, Maddock said nearly 60 percent of people heading to the Secretary of State in person are there to get tabs, meaning removing the requirement entirely could sharply reduce lines.

Seriously, when was the last time most people have had to stand in line to renew a license plate tab (Although, I do understand that not all people have credit/debit cards for the self-service stations). Shite, you can get your tab at select Kroger or Meijer locations.

Pharma Lobby Disputes Trump's Claim That Drug Companies Are Negotiating

Source: Bloomberg

The pharmaceutical industry’s leading lobby group said Tuesday it did not know of a meeting at the White House to discuss lowering prescription drug prices, after President Donald Trump said executives were coming in this week to negotiate.

“We are not aware of any meeting,” said Nicole Longo, a spokeswoman for Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

Trump told reporters before departing to Kenosha, Wisconsin that drug companies were coming in to see him “this week” to broker a deal “substantially” reducing drug prices. White House officials subsequently declined to comment when asked when the meeting is scheduled and who would participate.

“We’re working on drug companies on substantially lowering drug prices,” Trump said. “I’ve put out a favored nations clause, I’ve signed it. That means we get the lowest prices anywhere in the world, and we match whoever gets the lost and the drug companies are having a real problem with that and they are coming in to see me, and we expect to get a very substantial price reduction of prescription drugs which has never been done before.”

Barr orders more changes in FBI surveillance under FISA

Source: NBC

Attorney General William Barr ordered another round of changes Tuesday that he said are needed to avoid abuses of the law allowing the FBI to conduct secret surveillance in terrorism and foreign counterintelligence cases.

The new policies add to restrictions imposed earlier by Barr and FBI Director Chris Wray after the Justice Department inspector general concluded last year that the FBI misused the process for getting authority under FISA, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, to eavesdrop on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. The Page FISA has been a rallying point for conservative opponents of the FBI's investigation of the Trump campaign.

Before conducting physical searches or wiretaps of a federal election official, members of the official's staff, candidates for federal office, or their staff or advisers, the FBI must now consider giving them a "defensive briefing," to tell them that they could be the target of foreign influence. Such a step, Barr said, would address concerns that people in the U.S. "may become unwitting participants in an effort by a foreign power to influence an election or the policy or conduct of the United States government."

Trump was given a generic defensive briefing by the FBI after he became the Republican nominee in 2016. But the FBI did not warn him that some members of his campaign were under investigation. Nor did agents confront him with their suspicions that he might have been improperly influenced by the Russian government.

Trump White House Warns Colleges: Don't Send Your COVID-Infected Students Home!

Source: The Daily Beast

Top White House officials rang the alarm bell during a call with the nation’s governors on Monday, pleading with them to advise college presidents in their states to keep COVID-infected students on campus or risk another major outbreak.

“We know that what happened across the South [in June] was primarily driven by 18-to-25 year olds, across the South, with asymptomatic spread,” said Dr. Deborah Birx, the Coronavirus Response Coordinator for the White House Coronavirus Task Force. “Sending these individuals back home in their asymptomatic state to spread the virus in their home town or among their vulnerable households could really recreate what we experienced over the June time frame in the south. So I think every university president should have a plan for not only testing but caring for their students that need to isolate.”

The comments represent one of the most explicit acknowledgments to date that the White House’s aggressive push to bring students back to campus this fall has created serious risks for increased COVID transmission. It also underscores just how fragile the current situation is at college campuses across the country.

According to a New York Times tracker of COVID-19 at American colleges and universities, some 26,000 cases have emerged at over 750 institutions since the novel coronavirus hit the United States early this year. At the University of Alabama system alone, over 1,300 cases have been reported, according to the school’s own coronavirus case tracker.

Joe Biden Expands Campaign to 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' with Virtual Yard Signs

Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign expanded its reach to digital grounds with the release of campaign signs in the game Animal Crossing: New Horizons this week.

Biden supporters who play the Nintendo Switch game can now get four campaign signs, including “Biden-Harris,” “Team Joe,” “Joe” with a rainbow flag, and a sign consisting of three red, white, and blue aviators.

In a statement to the Verge, the Biden campaign’s Head of Digital Partnerships Christian Tom said, “Animal Crossing is a dynamic, diverse, and powerful platform that brings communities together from across the world. It is an exciting new opportunity for our campaign to engage and connect Biden-Harris supporters as they build and decorate their islands.”

“As we enter the final campaign stretch towards November, this is one way we are finding new creative and innovative ways to meet voters where they are and bring our supporters together,” he continued. “This is just the start of how we plan to engage players ahead of November as we’re already looking forward to rolling out more digital swag, voter education tools, and organizing efforts on Animal Crossing and other platforms.”
