Judge throws out Trump challenge to Manhattan DA subpoena for tax records

Source: CNBC

President Donald Trump's effort to fight a subpoena for his tax records issued by the Manhattan district attorney was rejected on Thursday by a federal judge in New York, handing another loss to the president in a high-profile case that has already made its way to the Supreme Court.

U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero said that the president failed to show that the subpoena would pose an unfair burden, siding in favor of Manhattan D.A. Cy Vance, Jr., who has said his office is pursuing an investigation of potential violations of state law.

This is breaking news. Please check back for updates.

If you want to understand the depth of certain men’s fear, observe that even killing Osama bin Laden is not enough to make them feel like men. They have to endanger other people and themselves simply to feel whole.

AOC's brief, poetic moment to shine -- and plant a big flag

...

She made the most of it, her greeting of “Bienvenidos,” teeing up a night that showcased the diversity of languages, accents and dialects across America.

Boiling water takes more time than AOC was given. But the magic of poetry, rhyme and rhythm teach those who are less privileged to weave eternities into limited space, shorter lines and compressed time.

While seconding the nomination for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for president, Ocasio-Cortez again planted her flag firmly in the progressive wing of her party by emphasizing the power and energy not of a political campaign, but a people’s movement that “seeks to recognize and repair the wounds of racial injustice, colonization, misogyny and homophobia.”

She pulled no punches, noting the movement “realizes the unsustainable brutality of an economy that rewards explosive inequalities of wealth for the few at the expense of long-term stability for the many.”

AOC’s foundation in poetry and brevity has long been the secret sauce in her social media power. She is a Titan of Twitter, a Grandmaster of Instagram, able to leap over her opponents and win over audiences in a single tweet or IG story. In an age of character limits, AOC was well suited for her moment.

...

The readiness to dismiss women of color who master the art of short-form social media is reminiscent of the sentiments that Black lesbian feminist Audre Lorde expressed in her 1980 paper, “Age, Race, Class and Sex: Women Redefining Difference.”

She wrote then of the difference between how White women in elite spaces deemed prose to be the more valuable art form, and that poetry was less rigorous and serious.

“The form our creativity takes is often a class issue,” Lorde wrote. “Of all the art forms, poetry is the most economical. It is the one which is most secret, which requires the least physical labor, the least material, and the one that can be done between shifts, in the hospital pantry, on the subway and on scraps of surplus paper … poetry has been the major voice of poor, working class, and Colored women.”

AP Exclusive: Cindy McCain video on Joe Biden to air at DNC

Source: AP

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Cindy McCain is going to bat for Joe Biden, lending her voice to a video set to air during Tuesday night’s Democratic National Convention programming focused on Biden’s close friendship with her late husband, Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

She’s just the latest Republican to join in the convention, after a number of notable GOP former elected officials — including former Ohio Gov. John Kasich — endorsed the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee on Monday night. It’s a continuation of a major theme that Democrats have pushed through the first night of the convention — an effort to broaden the party’s appeal to occasional Republicans and disaffected Trump voters.

In an advance clip from the video shared with The Associated Press, Cindy McCain talks about how Biden, then a Delaware senator, met her husband when John McCain was assigned to be a military aide for him on a trip overseas. The two became friends, and the families would gather for picnics in the Bidens’ backyard.

“They would just sit and joke. It was like a comedy show, sometimes, to watch the two of them,” she says in the clip.

Trump Wrote Putin To Congratulate Him On Being Named TIME Person Of The Year

Source: Forbes

Donald Trump wrote Vladimir Putin a personal letter in 2007, congratulating the Russian president on being named “Person of the Year” in TIME magazine, according to a nearly-1,000-page report that the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence released Tuesday.

“Dear President Putin,” the letter began. “Congratulations on being named Time magazine’s ‘Man of the Year’—you definitely deserve it. As you probably have heard, I am a big fan of yours! Take care of yourself. With best wishes, Sincerely, Donald J. Trump.” The future U.S. president put his famous signature on the letter with a thick marker, which he also used to underline the words “I am a big fan of yours!”

Trump has long had an interest in Russia, where he has pursued several potential projects. “The idea got off the ground after I sat next to the Soviet ambassador, Yuri Dubinin, at a luncheon,” Trump explained in his 1987 bestseller The Art of the Deal. Even during the 2016 campaign, Trump continued to chase a potential real estate deal in Moscow, with his associates working on the plans while he pursued the presidency.

Trump has also long had an interest in TIME’s “Person of the Year” designation. In 2015, as his presidential campaign was attracting headlines from almost every major outlet in the country, he complained that TIME had picked Angela Merkel as the Person of the Year. “I told you @TIME Magazine would never pick me as person of the year despite being the big favorite,” Trump tweeted. “They picked person who is ruining Germany.”

The Glory (and the Taboo) of 'WAP'

I was thrilled to listen to and watch “WAP,” Cardi B. and Megan Thee Stallion’s recently released homage to female sexuality and vaginal, shall we say, lubrication. (I recommend Googling what the acronym stands for, because it’s not something The New York Times is often allowed to print.)

As a gynecologist, I’m used to dispelling all kinds of vaginal misinformation in the office and online, but the one myth that is the hardest to undo — and that I encounter regularly with patients — is the idea that vaginal lubrication is “problematic.”

These women don’t have an itch or an odor. They don’t have pain with sex. They have no symptom other than their concern about the volume of their vaginal discharge or that they’re overly lubricated during sex. Or both.

I know the cruelty and damaging messages these women receive from various sources — men, mothers, friends, magazines and social media — all because of a system built and maintained (often by those without vaginas) that revolves around the culture of the problematic, shameful and, yes, wet vagina.

Did a partner (usually male, because I never hear this from women whose partners are women) complain about the wet spot? Get grossed out by white secretions on his penis? Say he “couldn’t feel anything?” Blame his lost erection or premature ejaculation on your lubrication?

Or perhaps it was the underwear challenge on social media, in which young women posted images of their underwear on social media to brag about their dryness and lack of discharge as a supposed sign of health and cleanliness. The douche recommended by a friend. The swab promoted on Instagram to wipe out the vagina after sex. The repeated articles in women’s magazines about the myth of eating pineapple to make oral sex sweeter. (And yes, it’s a myth. It’s a vagina, not a piña colada.)

Dr. Birx is in Jefferson City, MO today telling Missouri officials that mask usage is critical, warning against ALL group interactions like this, including family gatherings. Missouri's incompetent governor was mask-less as he introduced her.

Good day from Yuma, Arizona ~ 77 days til the election.

Here’s the line to get into President Trump’s campaign event — I’m told it’ll be a 1000 person limit here at a Yuma airport hangar.
