Book by Fusion GPS founders coming out next month

Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — The co-founders of a political research firm behind allegations about President Donald Trump’s ties to Russia have a book coming out next month.

Random House announced Monday that “Crimes in Progress: Inside the Steele Dossier and the Fusion GPS Investigation of Donald Trump” will be published Nov. 26. The book was co-written by Fusion GPS founders Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch.

Random House is calling “Crime in Progress” a “never-before-told inside story” about Trump and Russia and the investigation into whether his campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.

Fusion GPS helped compile the so-called Steele Dossier, by former British spy Christopher Steele, who in his findings contended that the Russian government held compromising information on Trump. In his tweets, the president has attacked the dossier as “FAKE.”

Trump Accuses Kurds of Releasing ISIS Prisoners to Bait Him Back Into Syria

Source: The Daily Beast

President Trump has accused the Syrian Kurds—who, until last week, were America's most important allies in the fight against ISIS—of releasing ISIS prisoners in an attempt to bait him. In an attack on Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade, who has been sharply critical of Trump’s actions toward the Kurds, Trump denied his decision to withdraw troops from Syria could lead to an ISIS resurgence. In an apparent response to reports that hundreds of ISIS-related prisoners have escaped since Turkey invaded Syria last week, the president tweeted: “Europe had a chance to get their ISIS prisoners, but didn’t want the cost. ‘Let the USA pay,’ they said... Kurds may be releasing some to get us involved.” Trump said the escaped prisoners should be “easily recaptured” by Turkey or European nations, which he urged to “move quickly.” The New York Times reported Sunday that the U.S. had failed to transfer five-dozen “high-value” ISIS detainees out of Syria.

China Wants More Talks Before Signing Trump's 'Phase One' Deal

Source: Bloomberg

China wants further talks as soon as the end of October to hammer out the details of the “phase one” trade deal touted by Donald Trump before Xi Jinping agrees to sign it, according to people familiar with the matter.

Beijing may send a delegation led by Vice Premier Liu He, China’s top negotiator, to finalize a written deal that could be signed by the presidents at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit next month in Chile, one of the people said. Another person said China wants Trump to also scrap a planned tariff hike in December in addition to the hike scheduled for this week, something the administration hasn’t yet endorsed. The people asked not to be named discussing the private negotiations.

The details of the verbal agreement reached in Washington last week between the two nations remain unclear. While Trump hailed an increase in agricultural purchases as “the greatest and biggest deal ever made for our Great Patriot Farmers in the history of our Country,” China’s state-run media only said the two sides “agreed to make joint efforts toward eventually reaching an agreement.”

S&P 500 futures extended losses, the Stoxx 600 fell and the yen rose as investor pessimism on the deal grew.

ABC News is teasing a wide ranging interview with Hunter Biden that will air Tuesday morning and evening—the same day as the next presidential debate. All but ensures this issue will be the dominant narrative for the former VP as Biden takes the stage.

U.S. forces set to withdraw further in Syria, Esper says

Source: NBC

U.S. forces are preparing to withdraw further from northern Syria, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Sunday.

The U.S. is "preparing to evacuate" about 1,000 troops from the area "as safely and quickly as possible," Esper told CBS' "Face the Nation," according to an excerpt of an interview set to air Sunday.

Esper said that the conflict between Turkish forces and U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish fighters had become "untenable" for the U.S. military.

Turkey invaded northeastern Syria Wednesday after U.S. troops first pulled back from the area to clear the way for Turkish forces.
