How did you decorate your home this Halloween? Put up a few spider webs, maybe a spooky ghost in the window? Well, one girl’s neighbors decided to go all out for this year’s Halloween by arranging different skeleton scenarios in their front yard every day.

The girl saw that her neighbors change their decorations every day and felt like she needed to share it. And the internet loved it – her original post on Twitter received over 250k likes and 85k retweets. Don’t you wish you had neighbors like that?

I thought it was all about big boys, who should have known better, shaking me down for candy. They'd arrive in clumps, shout "trick or treat," and shove undecorated brown paper bags in my direction. It didn't feel right.

Then again, some things don't make sense until you've lived them with your own child -- and not a moment sooner.

The tale I tell today is from the year 2000, Halloween day. My 15-year-old son, a sophomore at Davis High School, comes home and says, "Mom, I have an idea."

Then he pauses. "No, forget it."

At 7:15, guys start showing up. One is half in costume, the rest in school clothes. Like 15-year-olds everywhere, they come in a range of sizes. One boy is 6'2" and speaks in a deep bass. Another is only 5'4" but loud. The house reverberates with sound.

Even though my son knows I bought candy, I hear him say, "Wanna go out for a while and trick or treat?"

That night I was reminded that parents are not the only ones who regret the passing years. A year earlier, for the first time, my son gave out candy instead of trick-or-treating. It was an OK experience, but not worth repeating. It's much more fun to go trick-or-treating with a bunch of guys and if the neighbors are grumpy, it's easier to laugh things off when you're in a crowd.

Maryland football coach DJ Durkin, who has been on administrative leave since Aug. 11, is expected to return to the sidelines on the recommendation of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, according to a person familiar with the situation. Athletic Director Damon Evans also will be returning, and Maryland President Wallace D. Loh is planning to retire in June, in the wake of the controversy that has rocked the College Park campus the past two months.

The university system scheduled a news conference for Tuesday afternoon in Baltimore, but that briefing is expected to focus largely on proposed reforms the College Park campus should undertake in the wake of two independent investigations into the football program under Durkin’s leadership. According to four people familiar with the situation, the regents strongly urged Loh to allow Durkin to return and Evans to continue in his role. One person close to the situation said it was made clear to Loh that if he didn’t follow the board’s recommendations, he’d be fired immediately.

In his meeting with the regents last Friday, Loh explained to the board why he felt the school needed to move on from Durkin.

“It was made clear that if he wanted to remain in his position, he had no option,” one person close to the situation said. “He ultimately felt it would’ve been tremendously disruptive to the entire campus if he was to be terminated simply because he wouldn’t put the coach back on the field. .?.?.

UPDATED: Producer/director Ava DuVernay is working with Netflix on a Prince documentary, two sources have confirmed to Variety. The project has the full cooperation of the late artist’s estate, which is providing with interviews, archival footage, photos and archive access. The multiple-part documentary will cover the artist’s entire life.

“Prince was a genius and a joy and a jolt to the senses,” she tweeted after the news had broken Monday night. “The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate.” The Oscar-nominated filmmaker has been at work on the project for several months.

While renowned for her work on “Selma,” “Queen Sugar” and others, DuVernay made her big-screen debut in 2008 with “This Is the Life,” which chronicled the alternative hip-hop scene in Los Angeles in the 1990s.

DuVernay’s Netflix limited series “The Central Park Five” will premiere in 2019. Her Netflix documentary “13th” was Oscar-nommed.
