Organizers Behind Deadly Charlottesville Rally Are Inviting More Skinheads This Year

Source: The Daily Beast

The organizers behind last summer’s deadly “Unite the Right” rally want to cast an event held on its anniversary as a non-violent demonstration. But those same organizers are quietly asking members of violent paramilitary groups to attend the event, leaked messages reveal.

Jason Kessler, Unite the Right’s main organizer, has been losing far-right allies at a steady rate since the first disastrous rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, last August. Facing multiple lawsuits over the fallout of that deadly white supremacist meetup, Kessler has declared that the sequel event will be a peaceful affair. But two months’ worth of leaked Facebook messages, released by the nonprofit media collective Unicorn Riot, reveal that Kessler and his co-organizers discussed bringing on at least one violent skinhead group, and hoped to court other far-right groups that have publicly distanced themselves from Unite the Right.

“We are paramilitary + neo-Nazi,” a Facebook user calling himself “McCormick H Foley” wrote in the group chat, which contained a total of 20 people at various times. Foley is an alias for a member of the group Vanguard America, Unicorn Riot reported. James Fields Jr., the man accused of driving a car into a crowd of anti-racist protesters at Unite the Right, was seen marching with Vanguard America and holding a shield with the group’s logo.

In the chat, Foley mentioned acting as security for Unite the Right 2 “as I can stay at least somewhat close to my Vanguard.”

Trump: Journalists 'Should Be Free From The Fear Of Being Violently Attacked'

Source: TPM

President Donald Trump’s first public response to the deadly shooting at the Capital Gazette newsroom in Annapolis, MD came during a celebration of the 6-month anniversary of his tax law’s passage Friday.

“This attack shocked the conscience of our nation and filled our hearts with grief,” Trump said. “Journalists, like all Americans, should be free from the fear of being violently attacked while doing their job.”

Trump pledged “eternal support” as he described the Thursday shooting as a “horrible, horrible event.”

“When you’re suffering, we pledge our eternal support. The suffering is so great,” Trump said. “I’ve seen some of the people, so great. My government will not rest until we have done everything in our power to reduce violent crime and to protect innocent life. We will not ever leave your side. So our warmest, best wishes and regrets. Horrific, horrible thing. Thank you.”

Obama: I told Trump to just rename Obamacare and take credit for it

Beverly Hills, California (CNN)President Barack Obama told donors on Thursday in Los Angeles that he told then-incoming President Donald Trump that he should rename Obamacare and take credit for its successes, instead of repealing it.

During a question and answer session at a fundraiser with Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez, Obama said he didn't have "pride of authorship" over the Affordable Care Act and would have been happy if Trump kept the program but called it something different.

"I said to the incoming president, 'Just change the name and claim that you made these wonderful changes and I would be like, "You go,"'" he said to laughs. "Because I didn't have pride of authorship, I just wanted people to have health care."

GENEVA (Reuters) - Ken Isaacs, the U.S. nominee to lead the U.N. migration agency, was knocked out of the race on Friday after coming third behind Portugal’s Antonio Vitorino and Costa Rica’s Laura Thompson in a secret ballot of member states in Geneva, delegates said.

Isaacs, vice president of U.S. evangelical charity Samaritan’s Purse, had caused controversy after being forced to apologize for tweets and social media posts in which he disparaged Muslims.

'They're freaked out': CNN guest says US allies terrified Trump is giving 'a huge windfall to Russia

Washington Post foreign policy columnist Josh Rogin on Friday said that President Donald Trump’s reported threats to withdraw from both the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the World Trade Organization are terrifying America’s longtime allies.

In particular, traditional European allies such as the U.K., France and Germany are utterly baffled that Trump seems to think that the United States designed a global alliance system for the sole purpose of letting other countries rip off American citizens.

“I spent a week in Europe, and let me tell you: They’re freaked out,” he said. “They don’t understand why the president doesn’t understand the value of the alliances and what they bring to the table. And when your allies are freaked out and your enemies are very happy, you’re doing it wrong!”

Rogin noted that Russia, in particular, seems to be the country that is most gleeful about the president’s attacks on global economic and military alliances.
