Trump Administration Curbs Immigration for Additional 6 Countries in Election-Year Push to Restrict

Source: Time/AP

(WASHINGTON) — The Trump administration announced Friday that it was curbing legal immigration from six additional countries that officials said did not meet security standards, as part of an election-year push to further restrict immigration.

Officials said immigrants from Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Eritrea, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania will face new restrictions in obtaining certain visas to come to the United States. But it is not a total travel ban, unlike President Donald Trump’s earlier effort that generated outrage around the world for unfairly targeting Muslims.

Trump was expected to sign a proclamation on the restrictions as early as Friday.

The announcement comes as President Donald Trump tries to promote his administration’s crackdown on immigration, highlighting a signature issue that motivated his supporters in 2016 and hoping it has the same affect this November. The administration recently announced a crackdown on birth tourism and is noting the sharp decline in crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border and citing progress on building the border wall.

Sticky notes offer messages of hope after student scrawls cry for help on bathroom wall

When teacher Ashley Ferraro was in the girls' bathroom at her Colorado high school, she noticed a message of despair scribbled on the wall.

"Is life worth all the BS?" it said.

Her first instinct was to erase it, the English teacher at Golden High School told MNN.

"My first reaction was ah, graffiti, we have to clean it and scrub it off and we don’t want other kids to see it because what if they see it and think the same thing?" she said. "But if we cover it up and clean it, are we ignoring the question and by that, are we covering up the person and the pain they are in?"

Instead, Ferraro talked to her students and said if someone is asking a question, it deserves a response. She gave them a stack of sticky notes and permanent markers and said they could participate if they wanted to.

Former Trump Chief of Staff John Kelly tells Sarasota crowd 'I believe John Bolton'

Source: Herald-Tribune

Asked if Bolton - Trump’s former national security adviser - should testify at Trump’s impeachment trial, Kelly said he supports calling witnesses.

President Donald Trump is denying that he told former National Security Adviser John Bolton he wanted to withhold military aid from Ukraine until the country launched investigations into Joe Biden and his son, allegations that Bolton levies in his new book, according to news reports.

But one of Trump’s former top aides told a Sarasota crowd Monday evening that if the reporting on what Bolton wrote is accurate, he believes Bolton.

"If John Bolton says that in the book I believe John Bolton," said retired Gen. John Kelly, who served as Trump’s chief of staff for 18 months.
