demmiblue's JournalDave Chappelle's Obsession With Mocking Trans People Continues in New Netflix Special 'The Dreamer': 'I Love Punching...
The comedians newest special, The Dreamer, debuted on Netflix on Dec. 31, and largely focuses on his early years in entertainment and how he manifested his success. But he floods the first 12 minutes of the set revisiting his favorite target in recent years: Transgender people.
Chappelle opens the special by telling a story about visiting Jim Carrey while he was shooting the 1999 film Man on the Moon, where the actor famously went method on set while portraying comedian Andy Kaufman. Dave recalls being very disappointed that he spent the day speaking to Carrey pretending to be Kaufman, ending by saying, Thats how trans people make me feel.
He then addressed the controversy surrounding his anti-trans material, saying, If you guys came here to this show tonight thinking that Im going to make fun of those people again, youve come to the wrong show. Im not fucking with those people anymore. It wasnt worth the trouble. I aint saying shit about them. Maybe three or four times tonight, but thats it. Im tired of talking about them. And you want to know why Im tired of talking about them? Because these people acted like I needed them to be funny. Well, thats ridiculous. I dont need you. I got a whole new angle coming. You guys will never see this shit coming. I aint doing trans jokes no more.
He then said he was going to transition to joking about handicapped people instead because theyre not as organized as the gays. And I love punching down.

The Guest Stars of Miami Vice (1984)

by Ada Limón
Out here, theres a bowing even the trees are doing.
Winters icy hand at the back of all of us.
Black bark, slick yellow leaves, a kind of stillness that feels
so mute its almost in another year.
I am a hearth of spiders these days: a nest of trying.
We point out the stars that make Orion as we take out
the trash, the rolling containers a song of suburban thunder.
Its almost romantic as we adjust the waxy blue
recycling bin until you say, Man, we should really learn
some new constellations.
And its true. We keep forgetting about Antlia, Centaurus,
Draco, Lacerta, Hydra, Lyra, Lynx.
But mostly were forgetting were dead stars too, my mouth is full
of dust and I wish to reclaim the rising
to lean in the spotlight of streetlight with you, toward
whats larger within us, toward how we were born.
Look, we are not unspectacular things.
Weve come this far, survived this much. What
would happen if we decided to survive more? To love harder?
What if we stood up with our synapses and flesh and said, No.
No, to the rising tides.
Stood for the many mute mouths of the sea, of the land?
What would happen if we used our bodies to bargain
for the safety of others, for earth,
if we declared a clean night, if we stopped being terrified,
if we launched our demands into the sky, made ourselves so big
people could point to us with the arrows they make in their minds,
rolling their trash bins out, after all of this is over?

Mayor Adams announces executive order aimed at restricting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's migrant busing
Source: Politico
NEW YORK Mayor Eric Adams issued an executive order Wednesday to restrict the flow of migrant charter buses sent by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to New York City.
Adams said the order mandates any buses carrying migrants arrive in the city only between 8:30 a.m. and noon on weekdays. The buses arrival must also be announced 32 hours in advance, he said. The order specifically applies to buses contracted by the state of Texas whose governor Adams routinely blames for sending asylum seekers into the five boroughs.
The announcement came during a joint briefing with the mayors of Chicago and Denver. The three cities have formed a coalition to press the White House and federal government for more migrant aid as each metropolis grapples with the economic and governmental burden of housing, feeding and educating tens of thousands of migrants.
...
Adams said violating his order would result in a misdemeanor punishable by fines or the impounding of charter buses. He also raised the possibility his administration would file lawsuits against violators.

Amazon Prime Video viewers will have to pay an extra $2.99 monthly in January to avoid ads
The ad-free tier will officially roll out Jan. 29 and come on top of the $139 annual cost of an Amazon Prime subscription, or the $8.99-a-month standalone Amazon Prime Video subscription.
That means users who choose not to pay the extra fee to go ad-free will start seeing commercials on Prime Video content starting on the same date.
Amazon previously announced its intention to show ads on Prime Video in September, though it said it hoped to show "meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers."
