For instance, I recently found Darius Rucker's cover of Wagon Wheel to be perfection, IMHO. I esp. like the video version.

Dole officials knew a salad plant was contaminated with Listeria for 1 & 1/2 years before
Inspection reports (483) obtained by Food Safety News revealed the timeline of positive Listeria results and inaction. Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc. finally suspended production at its salad plant in Springfield, OH, on Jan. 21 this year after a random test by state officials showed a bagged salad contained Listeria monocytogenes.
By that time, at least 33 people in the U.S. and Canada had been sickened with the same strain of Listeria as was found when Ohio inspectors tested the Dole salad they collected from a retailer. All 33 victims had such severe symptoms they required hospitalization. Four of them died.
Who knew and when did they know it
According to the FDA’s inspection reports, in July 2014 Dole did swab tests of surfaces in the Springfield plant. The tests returned positive results for Listeria, but the facility kept producing salads, shipping them to dozens of states and at least five Canadian provinces.
At least five more times in 2014 and three times in late 2015 Dole’s internal tests showed Listeria contamination, but Dole kept the salad lines kept rolling until January this year.
The FDA inspection report states that Dole’s vice president for quality assurance and food safety, as well as the company’s quality assurance manager, were aware internal tests on Jan. 5 and 7 this year showed Listeria on equipment and other surfaces in the plant. But Dole continued to produce and ship salads.
Hot damn..Alabama is doing something SANE!
Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Bay Minette) introduced Senate Bill 143 (SB143) in February, where it was passed by a 23-3 vote last month.. The legislation would abolish all requirements to obtain a marriage license in Alabama. Instead, probate judges would simply record civil contracts of marriage between two individuals based on signed affidavits.
“All requirements to obtain a marriage license by the State of Alabama are hereby abolished and repealed. The requirement of a ceremony of marriage to solemnized the marriage is abolished.”
Under the proposed law, a judge of probate would have no authority to reject any recording of a marriage, so long as the affidavits, forms, and data are provided. In practice, the state’s role in marriage would be limited to recording marriages that have already occurred. As noted in the official bill synopsis, “This bill would eliminate the requirement of marriage licenses.”
Yesterday, the House House Judiciary Committee passed SB143 with some amendments, which inside sources say will help it get to the Governor’s desk.
If passed into law, SB143 would accomplish two things.
First, it would effectively render void the edicts of federal judges that have overturned state laws defining marriage. The founding generation never envisioned unelected judges issuing ex cathedra pronouncements regarding the definition of social institutions like marriage and the Constitution delegates the federal judiciary no authority to meddle in the issue. Constitutionally, marriage is an issue left to the state and the people.
Second, the bill would limit the state’s role in defining and regulating marriage, ending the squabble between factions seeking to harness the power of the state.
State involvement in marriages begin with racial discrimination lasw.
before that, people recorded marriages in the family Bible or some such paper, until a visiting preacher could come along and make it offcial.
By trying to avoid marrying same sex couples, this law would make void all old state laws. Hot damn.

World's oldest tree turns 4,847 this year and is in a top-secret location
because the world's 2nd oldest tree was cut down by a grad student in 1964.!
Even if people have laid eyes on the world's oldest tree, there's a good chance they didn't realize it. That's because the United States Forest Service keeps all information about the 4,847-year-old Great Basin bristlecone pine — including its exact location — completely under wraps to protect it from any potential vandals, loggers, and researchers who may be interested in chopping it down.
The tree, known as Methuselah, is rumored to be located somewhere on a mountain in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, part of Inyo National Forest in California. Even with that hint, searchers would be hard pressed to find the tree, however. The Forest Service refuses to release even as much as a picture of the tree out of fear that may happen.
While it might sound zany to be so protective over a tree, the Forest Service admittedly has good reason. The New York Times reports that the world's former oldest-known tree, an ancient pine in Nevada's Great Basin National Park, got chopped down by a graduate student in 1964:
There are a few accounts of what happened: The student, Donald R. Currey, said in a PBS documentary that the normal approach to coring a tree was not working and that he wasn't experienced enough to know what to do, so he cut it down with the help of some foresters. Members of the forest service said he got his drill bit stuck in the tree, and so he and the foresters cut it down to remove his tool.
Our beloved Murphy has gone over the bridge......
I have been a rolling stone most of my life, and often had to pass my cats onto a friend/relative when I moved.
but Murphy I have had since he was born, 15 years ago.
I was HIS, from day one, and he totally ignored anyone else, tho would sorta share a space with another cat who came into our lives
He slept with me every night, and we would have disagreements as to how much of the pillow he could share.
No matter where I went in the house, he would be at my feet, purring.
I really consider him the Golden retriever of cats ( a lot of people know how nutz I am about Goldens)
Murphy DID have a few rules:
1. "do not pick me up. "
I could briefly do so if I set him on a table to groom him, but being carried around, nope.
2." Do NOT take me to the vet."
that started with the neuter thing, and got worse. Our local vet quit smiling when we came thru the door.
Murphy took a chunk out of Mr. dixie's hand when he came to get him from the vet, a couple years ago.
I think he would have done the same to me.
Otherwise, he was a sweetheart, and would sit and lie down on command, and loved to be held and petted.
Few days ago we had to make a tough love decision, Murphy had a severe abscess in his face/mouth, and the vet wasn't sure there could be a good outcome,
given Murphy's age.
so here is my memory picture of a most special guy in my life, in his favorite flowerpot.....he would spend hours in the shade there.
