It's the second time this month a child has been killed by a gunshot in the Butler County community.

Thursday's shooting was reported just before 4 p.m. on the 700 block of Gordon Smith Boulevard, according to Hamilton Police Lt. Carl Sigmon.

So, why did Officer Sylleloglu (who had his gun out first) and was flanking Dillon Taylor not fire??

Was he not '...scared...' as Officer Cruz stated himself to be? Or was it that Officer Sylleloglu chose not to follow Dillon Taylor in a manner that required his line of sight to be facing into the sun? (Thus, Officer Sylleloglu could actually see what was taking place in front of him?)

DA says Dillon Taylor officer-involved killing was justified
By Erin Alberty And Marissa Lang The Salt Lake Tribune

...

Taylor's shooting was justified, Gill said, not because he posed an actual threat, but because Cruz reasonably perceived a threat.

"Officer Cruz's belief that Dillon Taylor was armed with a gun and intended to use it against the officers was reinforced by Dillon's actions and the acts of others," Gill wrote in a letter to Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank. "By the time Dillon drew his hands from his waistband, Officer Cruz's belief that Dillon was presenting a weapon [and ... would use the weapon against officers] was reasonable."

...

When Taylor withdrew his hands from his waistband, Cruz told investigators: "I was scared to death. The last thought I had go through my mind when I pulled the trigger ... was that 'I was too late. I was too late.' And because of that I was gonna get killed."

...

No gun • After the shooting, Cruz rolls Taylor's body over and cuffs his hands as a witness can be heard screaming, "They [expletive] shot him!" Officer Andrew Sylleloglu can be heard telling Cruz he couldn't activate his body camera.

Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office Finds Officer Involved Shooting
Legally Justified

Is it smart tactically to put oneself facing into the sun if one needs to approach a 'suspect'? Can one determine that it is safe to fire at a target if one is looking at the target and the sun approximately behind the target? How would a person walking in the direction of the sun behave differently than a person walking away from the sun if addressed from behind? Would there be any disorientation? Beyond this, if one were intoxicated, would this possible disorientation be amplified by the intoxicant?

Can this terrible incident be ascribed to potentially negligently faulty tactics employed by the responding officers? Tactics that gave at least one of the officers no way to accurately perceive the level of threat that was being presented?

This sort of thing has to stop.

CNN Probably Should Avoid The Metric System And Significant Figures In General...

Metric America: Lincoln Chafee's vision in 20 examples
By Eric Weisbrod, Walbert Castillo and Sophie Tatum, CNN
Updated 9:48 PM ET, Thu June 4, 2015

(CNN)Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee announced Wednesday his bid to become the Democratic nominee for president in 2016, and in his stump speech, his pushed for America to use the metric system.

...

2. If you were to drive from Des Moines, Iowa to Concord, New Hampshire, that's a distance of 1,238 miles or 2064.79 kilometers. Likewise, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton drove 1,964 miles from Chappaqua, New York to Monticello, Iowa, according to the Washington Post, a distance equivalent to 3131.783 kilometers.

...

4. The distance between the White House and the U.S. Capitol building, is 2.5 miles or 4.02336 kilometers.

...

And just for a little more perspective, here are ten things that will change in Chafee's America:

...

6. The Quarter Pounder: Imagine ordering a 0.45 Kilogrammer with Cheese.

CNN's slightly corrected version:

Some Observations:

That is one large 'Quarter' Pounder.

By some arcane mathematical alchemy (likely known only to CNN), four significant figures can become either six or seven significant figures - and sometimes two significant figures can become six significant figures.

Thank goodness that CNN is merely a news organization and that people do not need to count on the accuracy of what they publish, broadcast or state.
