Josh Marshall tweet: "Trump was pressuring Ukraine to be more corrupt, not less..."

I'll repeat the point. Central to US concerns about Ukraine "corruption" is political investigations/prosecutions, using the law as a weapon against political rivals. Trump was pressuring Ukraine to be more corrupt, not less. Indeed, to bring their corruption into the US.

Ned Price on the use of cellphones between Sondland and Trump

https://twitter.com/nedprice/status/1194656164165963776
Ned Price ✔ @nedprice

This isn't the most important implication, but the fact that Trump was speaking to Sondland -- who was using a cell phone in Ukraine -- almost certainly means the Russians were listening, too.

Imagine the leverage that knowledge of Trump's betrayal and extortion gave them.

William Taylor details NEW info from a July 26 event: One of Taylor's staffers heard Gordon Sondland on the phone with Trump, "asking Ambassador Sondland about 'the investigations.' Ambassador Sondland told President Trump that the Ukrainians were ready to move forward."

Normally EU Ambos does't call POTUS-Doing so via cellphone from Kyiv means whole world was listening

Mieke Eoyang ✔ @MiekeEoyang

Use of a cell phone in Kyiv to cll the President, rather than using a secure phone in the embassy is surprising, and a security risk.

Last time I was in Kyiv I used a VPN the whole time, didn't make voice calls.

Michael McFaul ✔ @McFaul

Sondland calling Trump on a cellphone from Kyiv is extraordinary for all sorts of reasons. Normally EU Ambos don’t call presidents. They never do so to discuss Ukraine policy. Doing so on a cellphone from Kyiv means whole world was listening in.

I don't know Georgia well, though I live and work in the state to the south and know it a little. I'm generally against poll-unskewing, but this survey seems a little too D-friendly

That said, I'll defer to the pollsters & it does seem Trump has some difficulties in GA

David Frum tweet: Trump was not "democratically elected"- he lost by 2.9 million votes

https://twitter.com/davidfrum/status/1194604223373205504
David Frum ✔ @davidfrum

Trump was not "democratically elected" - he lost by 2.9 million votes. He was "constitutionally elected," by an 18th century constitutional design that includes a ban on foreign bribes to the president and that offers impeachment and removal as a remedy for bribe-seeking

Mickey Kaus @kausmickey

I suppose if the Respectable Interagency Consensus on Ukraine is willing to righteously remove a democratically elected president -- in Ukraine (2014) -- it's not such a big step to justify doing the same thing in the US.

Univ of Florida's student president faces impeachment after bringing D Trump Jr. to campus for $50K

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/11/13/university-florida-donald-trump-jr-impeachment-michael-murphy/

By Meagan Flynn

November 13, 2019 at 5:53 a.m. EST

After the University of Florida’s student body president helped bring Donald Trump Jr. and Trump campaign adviser Kimberly Guilfoyle to campus last month to the tune of $50,000, the school’s student government has now moved to impeach him, arguing that the speaking engagement amounted to a misuse of student fees.

On Tuesday, the student body president, Michael Murphy, was served with the impeachment resolution and accused of malfeasance and abuse of power — a development unfolding at the university just as President Trump’s public impeachment hearings begin today on Capitol Hill.

For Trump, the key piece of evidence is his July phone call with the Ukrainian president — but for Murphy it’s an email, a short exchange with a Trump campaign consultant that his critics say is proof of misconduct.

The group of senators seeking Murphy’s impeachment argue that the Oct. 10 speaking engagement for Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle, his girlfriend, was funded with mandatory student fees in violation of rules banning the use of public students funds to support or oppose a “political party at any level.” In the eyes of critics, Murphy’s correspondence with the Trump fundraising consultant ahead of the event bolsters their case that Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle’s appearance was a campaign event.
