Gary Mule Deer ... ha!

"A dyslexic atheist. 'There is no Dog!'" ... one of the few one-liners of his I remember when he opened for a singer I used to work for many years ago in Vegas.

Legislators seek answers for firing of state's top vaccination expert

Source: WSMV News 4 Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - Legislators and medical doctors are seeking answers after Dr. Michelle Fiscus, the Medical Director of Tennessee’s Vaccine-Preventable Diseases and Immunization program for the Tennessee Department of Health, was fired on Monday.

“I want Governor (Bill) Lee and Commissioner (Lisa) Piercey to explain to those I represent why they fired Dr. Fiscus. Every person in Tennessee relies on and reasonably expects the professionals serving in our state government to rise above politics and perform their respective roles to their utmost ability,” state Rep. John Ray Clemmons, D-Nashville, said in a statement released Monday night.

“A well-respected member of the public health community was sacrificed in favor of anti-vaccine ideology,” state Sen. Raumesh Akbari, D-Memphis, said in a statement. “This disgraceful hatchet job is going to endanger the lives of unvaccinated Tennesseans at a time when we have a safe and reliable way to protect our families from the virus. A disappointing and poor decision.”

Fiscus said in a statement that she was terminated, partly because the Department of Health promoted teens ages 13-17 to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

AZ Audit ... Don't see any POC there.

... they may be there, but it's difficult to see with the low resolution cameras they're using.

Looks like the typical MAGA crowd.

Parler, a Social Network That Attracted Trump Fans, Returns Online

Source: New York Times

Feb. 15, 2021 - Updated 2:29 p.m. ET -- SAN FRANCISCO — Parler, the social network that drew millions of Trump supporters before disappearing from the internet, is back online a month after Amazon and other tech giants cut off the company for hosting calls for violence around the time of the Capitol riot.

Getting iced out by the tech giants turned Parler into a cause celebre for conservatives who complained they were being censored, as well as a test case for the openness of the internet. It was unclear if the social network, which had positioned itself as a free speech and lightly moderated site, could survive after it had been blacklisted by the biggest tech companies.

For weeks, it appeared the answer was no. But on Monday, for the first time since Jan. 10, typing parler.com into a web browser returned a page to log into the social network — a move that had required weeks of work by the small company and that had led to the departure of its chief executive. Parler executives did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday.

It was unclear exactly how Parler had figured out how to host its site on computer servers, the central technology underpinning any website, though it appeared Parler had partnered with a smaller company for the service. Many of the large web-hosting firms had previously rejected it. For other services required to run a large website, Parler relied on help from a Russian firm that once worked for the Russian government and a Seattle firm that once supported a neo-Nazi site.

“The only way to reverse minority rule is through big structural reforms like abolishing Electoral College, eliminating filibuster, ending partisan gerrymandering, enshrining right to vote in Constitution & giving statehood to Washington DC & Puerto Rico”

End the filibuster and Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act & For The People Act.

Tennessee Lawmakers Introduce Bill To Allow Fathers To Veto Abortions

A bill introduced in the Tennessee General Assembly this week would allow a man who gets a woman pregnant to request an injunction barring her from having an abortion.

The legislation, SB0494 in the Senate and HB1079 in the House, would require a court hearing to be held within 14 days of a petition being filed by the individual seeking an injunction.

At the hearing, if the man can prove that he is the biological father and that there is a “reasonable probability” that the woman would obtain an abortion, the court shall issue an injunction prohibiting her from terminating the pregnancy. Proof of parenthood requires only that the petitioner acknowledges paternity. A DNA test is not required.

If the woman violates the injunction by obtaining an abortion, the court may hold her in civil or criminal contempt. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.

Maryland Governor Says Pentagon 'Repeatedly Denied' Approval To Send National Guard To Capitol

Source: Forbes

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said Thursday that the Department of Defense “repeatedly denied” to authorize deployment of Maryland’s National Guard troops to help quell violence at the Capitol on Wednesday.

Federal authorities were not guarding the Capitol at the time of the attack, leaving the job to the Capitol Police, who were quickly overrun by the mob.

President Trump reportedly refused initial requests to send in the National Guard, with Vice President Mike Pence ultimately interfacing with Defense Department officials and giving the order to mobilize units.

Hogan, a Republican, called for President Trump’s removal in the wake of the attack. "I think there's no question that America would be better off if the president would resign or be removed from office,” he said.

FBI searching offices, homes of Tennessee Republican lawmakers

Source: WKRN Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Federal agents searched the offices and homes of several Republican Tennessee lawmakers early Friday morning.

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation were at the Cordell Hull building in downtown Nashville, where they were seen searching the office of former Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada. The legislative offices of representatives Kent Calfee and Robin Smith, both Republicans representing East Tennessee, were also searched.

A source told News 2 the FBI searched Casada’s residence early Friday morning, as well as the homes of several other Republican lawmakers.

Casada resigned from his leadership role in Aug. 2019 amid a scandal involving racist and sexist text messages. The resignation came months after his colleagues in the State House voted “no confidence” in his leadership.
