sarchasm's JournalParler, a Social Network That Attracted Trump Fans, Returns Online
Source: New York Times
Feb. 15, 2021 - Updated 2:29 p.m. ET -- SAN FRANCISCO Parler, the social network that drew millions of Trump supporters before disappearing from the internet, is back online a month after Amazon and other tech giants cut off the company for hosting calls for violence around the time of the Capitol riot.
Getting iced out by the tech giants turned Parler into a cause celebre for conservatives who complained they were being censored, as well as a test case for the openness of the internet. It was unclear if the social network, which had positioned itself as a free speech and lightly moderated site, could survive after it had been blacklisted by the biggest tech companies.
For weeks, it appeared the answer was no. But on Monday, for the first time since Jan. 10, typing parler.com into a web browser returned a page to log into the social network a move that had required weeks of work by the small company and that had led to the departure of its chief executive. Parler executives did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday.
It was unclear exactly how Parler had figured out how to host its site on computer servers, the central technology underpinning any website, though it appeared Parler had partnered with a smaller company for the service. Many of the large web-hosting firms had previously rejected it. For other services required to run a large website, Parler relied on help from a Russian firm that once worked for the Russian government and a Seattle firm that once supported a neo-Nazi site.

Senators voting to impeach represent 61.6% of the population. (202,119,286 people)
Senators voting against represent 38.2% of the population. (125,414,488 people)
Senators voting for impeachment represent 76.7 million more people than senators voting against
The only way to reverse minority rule is through big structural reforms like abolishing Electoral College, eliminating filibuster, ending partisan gerrymandering, enshrining right to vote in Constitution & giving statehood to Washington DC & Puerto Rico
End the filibuster and Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act & For The People Act.
Tennessee Lawmakers Introduce Bill To Allow Fathers To Veto Abortions
A bill introduced in the Tennessee General Assembly this week would allow a man who gets a woman pregnant to request an injunction barring her from having an abortion.
The legislation, SB0494 in the Senate and HB1079 in the House, would require a court hearing to be held within 14 days of a petition being filed by the individual seeking an injunction.
At the hearing, if the man can prove that he is the biological father and that there is a reasonable probability that the woman would obtain an abortion, the court shall issue an injunction prohibiting her from terminating the pregnancy. Proof of parenthood requires only that the petitioner acknowledges paternity. A DNA test is not required.
If the woman violates the injunction by obtaining an abortion, the court may hold her in civil or criminal contempt. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.
