I want Colorado to be the state that outlaws guns...

by passing a law that says anyone can sue anyone if they suspect them of owning, buying, or selling a firearm. You can sue for up to $10,000 plus legal fees for every gun owned, bought or sold by any individual.

No exceptions. None. Not cops, not military, not hunters, and especially not "recreational" shooters.

And I'm not fucking kidding.

I know I sound like a rabid, radical anti-gun nut (because I am one), but I don't believe it is any different from the Texas law. If they can control a woman's FUCKING BODY, then we should be able to control these DEATH MACHINES.

And if this is how you get around the Feds, then I'm all in.

If it were up to me...

Someone else once posted this to DU after a mass shooting. It has since been one of my favorite songs.

Our very quiet, vegan, gluten-free, nerdy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a bit odd in my family.

My husband and I don't live near our extended families, and haven't been traveling much the past couple of years due to Covid.

My son and NB (non-binary child--they/them) share an apartment south of Denver about thirty miles from our house. We invited them to come to the house for Thanksgiving, but son has to work Wed. and Fri., and didn't want to spend so much of his one day off in the car. Can't blame him.

So, hubby and I drove down to their apartment for the day.

Son is vegan, though he will cheat, especially on special occasions, but definitely no meat. NB has recently been diagnosed with severe Celiac disease, plus they have misophonia which makes it hard for them to be around people who are eating. They have these hearing aids which help as long as there is some ambient noise. It was a beautiful day, so we left the patio door open.

Dinner consisted of...

Salmon (son did not partake, but it was delicious)
Homemade apple-butter from NB's fiancé
Gluten free stuffing. Never tried it before, but it came out great.
Mashed potatoes
Gluten-free gravy made with vegetable broth. Again, a new one on me.
Candied yams, a family favorite

The kids don't own a TV (and I'm the only sports fan in the family), so while NB and I were cooking, son and his dad sat around discussing the possibility of multiple universes and existential philosophy. Also math, lots of math. We are a family of serious nerds.

We were so full after dinner that we didn't even bother with dessert.

Later we sat around playing Scattegories--my reward for doing most of the cooking

It was perfect.

Hope everyone on DU got to enjoy Thanksgiving in their own special ways.

Okay, this was not necessary...

But I'm gonna do it anyway.

In case you haven't seen it there is a story in Florida about an eight-year-old girl, Fiona Lashells, who has been suspended from school DOZENS of times this year for not wearing a mask:

Well, I just had to assume that her parents are rocket scientists, so I googled the mom. This is the "About Me" page for her photography business.

Now, I'm a grammar nazi, but I usually try to suppress it because I know I can make dumb mistakes in emails and posts, but this is her WEBSITE! It's not like she can't go back and fix mistakes.

My name is Bailey Lashells and I am the owner of Lashells Photography based in Palm Beach County, Florida. After starting my own family in 2013, then shortly after my business I realized how true it is that family is the most important thing to each of us. Whatever stage you are at in your’s let me help create memories that you will treasure for a lifetime. I pride myself on making my clients comfortable in front of the camera even if that sometimes means being a bit goofy behind it, especially if you have little ones or a husband like mine. Together we will make sure your memories our captured exactly how you envision them to be. Don’t worry if your thinking “but can she do this with MY kids”, with 3 of my own and years of experience I promise we can get thru it together. Please reach out to me with any questions you may have after checking out my site. I look forward to working with you in the future.

I found at least five mistakes, and not just style and preference, but actual mistakes.

I feel for her kids.

Ingrid Encalada Latorre granted stay of removal...

Ingrid Encalada Latorre granted stay of removal in immigration case after years of sanctuary in Boulder church

https://www.dailycamera.com/2021/11/05/ingrid-encalada-latorre-granted-stay-of-removal-in-immigration-case-after-years-of-sanctuary-in-boulder-church/

For the first time in four years, Ingrid Encalada Latorre will get to go to the park with her three children, walk the aisles of the grocery store or go on a hike and take in mountain views.

Encalada Latorre, a native of Peru, has been living in sanctuary at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder with her three American-born children since 2017. If she stepped outside the church, at 5001 Pennsylvania Ave., she faced the possibility of being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

This month, after several denied requests, Encalada Latorre was granted a one-year stay of removal beginning Nov. 1. This allows her the liberty to live her life outside the walls of the church, without the fear of being detained. She will spend that time working to re-open her immigration case — and, she said, venturing out with friends.

Sorry, the linked story is behind a paywall, but suffice it to say that our Dem Congressman, Joe Neguse and our Dem Governor, Jared Polis both hand a hand in making this happen. I truly hope they can stop her deportation permanently.

Wow. This is nice.

I spent most of yesterday working, not checking the news, and when I finally get onto DU this morning, there are some stories, some fun stuff, some tweets, but you know what there's not?

A SCANDAL OF THE DAY.

I'm realizing just how exhausting and stressful four years of TFG was.

Not that we don't have problems, but at least now we have the attention to try to deal with them instead of every moment being the news equivalent of "Squirrel!" popping up on our screens.

Arizona - The Basque Connection

Hi Arizona! Someone suggested I repost this to the Arizona group, so here you go. Hope you like it.

(FYI, I live in Colorado, but my daughter's fiancé lives in Winslow and goes to NAU, so we've been driving down every few months. Love Arizona! )
