I'm so angry that I'm making my first donation of 2016

We may not be poor but life isn't cheap and we try to make every dollar count. But after today, I can no longer do nothing. So I am donating $25 to Hillary to at least vocalize my outrage at the naked abuse of power by the FBI and Jason Chaffetz.

It's early, but it might a blessing in disguise

Democrats, the ones I see on Twitter, are PISSED at the FBI and galvanized. This could really boost turnout if they're any reflection of the party as a whole.

20% of Travis voters have cast ballots in unprecedented early voting

10 p.m. update: In total, 21 percent of registered Travis County voters have already cast their ballots in the first four days of early voting.

The final tally showed that 32,780 people showed up to vote Thursday. That’s lower than the first three daily totals, though still a robust turnout.

With Thursday’s turnout, the total number of Travis County residents who have now voted so far has reached 154,232.

These numbers are unprecedented. Travis County elections director Michael Winn said this season’s early voting turnout could potentially surpass the total turnout rates of previous elections before Election Day even arrives.

Three hours after polls closed, Williamson County’s final Thursday numbers were not yet in, but voter turnout was at 18.8 percent just in the first three days.

Louisiana early voting on pace to break records

Louisiana is only two days into a week-long early voting period, but already it looks like more residents are choosing to cast their ballots before election day than the state has seen in the past. Close to 163,000 people voted Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct. 25-26).

Louisiana voters have already submitted 46 percent of the total ballots turned in during the entire 2012 presidential election early voting period -- and they still have five days to go. If they stay on this pace, it will result in the highest early voting turnout the state has ever seen.

On Tuesday, the first day of early voting, Louisiana residents cast some 85,000 votes. By comparison, they cast 60,000 ballots on the first day of early voting in 2012 and 28,000 on the first day of early voting in 2008.

"It's record-setting," said Meg Casper, communications director for Secretary of State Tom Schedler, of the first day of 2016 early voting.

In Orleans Parish, the pace is even more frenzied. A little more than 15,000 people voted during the first two days of the early voting period, which amounts to about 62 percent of the Orleans Parish voters who participated in 2012 early voting.

In Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes, early voting also seems to be outpacing the 2012 turnout, though not nearly as quickly as it has in Orleans so far.

Marylanders crowd polls on first day of early voting

Tens of thousands of Marylanders who turned out for the first day of early voting — 125,914 statewide, including about 9,500 in Baltimore — faced long waits at the busiest polling places. But otherwise, they had smooth experiences, state and local officials said.

The combination of the divisive presidential contest between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, along with the battle for a rare open Senate seat in Maryland and, in Baltimore, a mayoral election, is driving early-voting turnout that officials and observers expect to set records.

California Democrats and Latinos returning ballots at record levels.

The California results are notable however, not because they show Clinton cruising to an expected victory — with registered Democrats returning their vote-by-mail ballots at rate 25 percent over the rate in the 2012 election, and Republicans up only six percent — but because of the extraordinary spike in Latino voting, reflected in the early voting numbers.

Latino voters, as the above chart reveals, have returned California vote-by-mail ballots at a rate 45 percent higher than four years ago.
