California poll: Trump’s numbers dropping into ‘uncharted territory’

Donald Trump is careening toward a historically poor showing in California, a prospect that has left several GOP congressmen fearful for their seats and Democrats hopeful they can regain a supermajority in the Legislature.

According to a new poll from the Public Policy Institute of California, in just one month Democrat Hillary Clinton’s lead over Trump has soared from 16 to 26 points as the brash billionaire’s campaign has imploded amid allegations that he’s a serial groper. He now has the support of only 28 percent of likely California voters, the poll found.

The contest for retiring U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer’s seat is also unlikely to deliver much drama on election night, the poll found. California Attorney General Kamala Harris leads Loretta Sanchez, an Orange County congresswoman, by 22 points.

MO-SEN: Blunt up by 1

Taken Monday through Wednesday, the poll shows Blunt with 47 percent and Kander with 46 percent, with 5 percent undecided, reflecting a race that has been close for months and has drawn increasing national attention, and money.

The Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday that at least $26 million has been spent by outside groups trying to influence the Senate race on both sides, on top of more than $23 million raised by the candidates, with millions more spending to come.

The 66-year-old Blunt’s strengths are in rural Missouri and among older voters, segments where he has double-digit leads, the poll shows. Kander, 35, Missouri's secretary of state, is winning voters under 35 decisively and carrying metro St. Louis and Kansas City, signaling that each candidate’s ability to get out the vote in these strongholds will be key to which one wins on Nov. 8.

Trump still leading Hillary by 3 in Texas

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a three-percentage-point lead over Democrat Hillary Clinton on the eve of early voting in Texas, according to the latest University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll.

Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence, had the support of 45 percent of likely Texas voters, compared with 42 percent for Clinton and Tim Kaine; 7 percent for Libertarian Gary Johnson and William Weld; and 2 percent for the Green Party’s Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka. The remaining 5 percent said they would vote for someone else for president and vice president.

“This is the trend that we’ve been seeing in polling for the last two weeks,” said Jim Henson, co-director of the UT/TT Poll and head of the Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas at Austin.

In spite of the closeness of the race and the margin of error, the number of polls showing similar distance between the candidates, with Trump in front, “is probably a telling us where this race really stands,” Henson said. Close, with a Trump lead, in other words.

For what it's worth, San Francisco clerk reporting record returns of mail-in ballots.

Being reporting on local news. We actually have some interesting state and city measures as well as a State Senate race that's splitting the local party in two.

City of Madison, WI shatters early voting records

MADISON (WKOW) -- With more than a week of early voting left in the City of Madison, a new record for the number of absentee ballots issued and returned has already been broken.

As of Tuesday, the City Clerk had issued a total of 35,497 absentee ballots and had 31,421 returned to be counted, shattering the previous records of 32,012 issued in 2008 and 29,199 returned in 2012.

The city has also established another new record with 26,527 absentee ballots cast in person at early voting locations. The previous high was 18,752 ballots cast in person in 2012.

"I would not be surprised if we had 40,000 absentee ballots cast in person," said City of Madison Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl.

Ironically, Republican state lawmakers are partly responsible for that boom.

Punisher Netflix Series Confirmed for 2017 Release

We had some previous evidence that Marvel's Punisher Netflix series could be released in 2017, but now we have it officially confirmed from Marvel itself that the released date is valid!

While revealing the new actors joining The Punisher cast, Marvel.com confirmed that 2017 will be the premiere year. That will mark the first time Marvel is releasing three Netflix series in one year; the pattern so far has been two per year. 2017 will also bring Iron Fist and The Defenders team-up miniseries, both of which made big impressions at this year's New York Comic-Con.

Hardcore fans know that Punisher has already been filming around New York City for a bit, so it's not shocking to hear that Netflix will be airing the series next year.
