A K-pop star's death is the latest reminder of how Korea's justice system fails women

In South Korea, the death of K-pop star Goo Hara is refueling rage against sexual crimes against women — and the widespread perception that law enforcement has failed to effectively address the issue.

On Sunday, 28-year-old Goo, a former member of girl group Kara, was found dead in her Seoul home. Police have not yet commented on the cause of death, but Goo had reportedly been hospitalized earlier this year for an alleged suicide attempt, in the midst of a scandal that unleashed a torrent of abuse.

After her death, two previously little-known names started trending on Korean social media: Choi Jong-bum and Oh Duk-shik. The former is her ex-boyfriend, accused of filming Goo naked while they were intimate and blackmailing her by threatening to release the footage, among other charges. The latter is the male judge who acquitted Choi of the charge this August, while convicting him of other charges, including assault.

Spy cameras, or “molka,” have emerged as a hot-button issue in South Korea. Last year’s anti-molka rallies, which brought out historic numbers of women onto the streets of Seoul, were followed by months of media hype. Various sectors of the government declared “war against molka,” including showy campaigns searching for cameras in public bathrooms.

Florida Man caught masturbating outside store, assaults elderly witness.

A Florida senior citizen calling out a mystery masturbator was allegedly punched by the self-love sicko outside a Florida supermarket, say Miami police.

Kerry Vandergriff was busted Nov. 23 for indecent exposure in the Fresco y Mas parking lot after he repeatedly punched the senior who asked him to stop pleasuring himself.

Responding to a battery call, cops placed the 39-year-old suspect in handcuffs, reported Miami TV station WFOR.

The victim, who was not identified, told cops he noticed a seemingly inebriated Vandergriff with his pants down in front of the supermarket.

The senior claims he approached Vandergriff asking him to stop. That’s when the suspect allegedly got violent and began thrashing him, causing a facial laceration, according to the arrest report.

Vandergriff, a Jacksonville resident, continued pummeling the victim even after he tumbled to the ground, he told cops.

The suspect was arrested after refusing to identify himself to officers.

Supergirl's Melissa Benoist Opens Up On Domestic Violence Experience

Supergirl star Melissa Benoist continues to make headlines with her brave and inspiring performance as the Girl of Steel. And with the fifth season of the show drawing close to the midseason finale, the actress has now taken to social media to address the issue of domestic violence.

In an emotional video posted on her official Instagram page, Melissa opened up about her personal experience as a domestic violence survivor, beginning her account by saying:

“I am a survivor of domestic violence or intimate partner violence, which is something I never thought I would say let alone be broadcasting into the ether.”

She refused to name the alleged abuser but described the incidents of her destructive entanglement. According to Benoist, emotional manipulation began a couple of months into the relationship and continued with instances of physical abuse. The first time it happened, the man threw a smoothie at her face and the bottle smacked her cheek. In another heated fight, the partner threw an iPhone at her, breaking her nose and almost puncturing her eyeball.

But it doesn’t stop there, as the actress who’s been portraying Kara Danvers in the Arrowverse for more than five years continued to recall the horrid details of her abusive and emotionally devastating relationship.

“The stark truth is I learned what it felt like to be pinned down and slapped repeatedly, punched so hard I felt the wind go out of me,” She said. “Dragged by my hair across pavement, head-butted, pinched until my skin broke, shoved against the wall so hard the drywall broke, choked.”

This also affected her career in more ways than one. Apparently, the perpetrator would snoop around on her phone and become angry or ‘jealous’ when she talked to other men.

South Carolina's Social Security requirement stops people from voting, federal lawsuit alleges

South Carolina is one of just four states that will not let someone vote unless they disclose their full nine-digit Social Security number on voter registration applications.

And in an era of identity theft that makes people wary of giving out their full Social Security numbers, that requirement makes South Carolina one of an “extreme minority” of states and is unconstitutional because it keeps eligible people from voting, according to a lawsuit filed by a Washington D.C. law firm in South Carolina’s federal court Monday against state election officials.

“Any application that does not include a potential voter’s full Social Security number will be rejected and the person will not be permitted to vote,” the lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit, filed by the S.C. Democratic Party and the national Senate and House Democratic congressional committees, seeks an injunction to stop the State Election Commission from requiring full Social Security number disclosure on voter registration forms.

The lawsuit also seeks a ruling on whether South Carolina’s requirement is legal.

State Elections Commission spokesman Chris Whitmire said the agency does not “comment on pending litigation.”

MO-02: Republican Wagner draws strong Democratic opponent.

EFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jill Schupp, a St. Louis County Democrat who flipped a Missouri Senate district from GOP control in 2014, is expected to launch a campaign in the coming weeks to try to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner, the Post-Dispatch has learned.

Her likely entry would follow last year’s unsuccessful effort by Missouri Democrats in Wagner’s 2nd Congressional District, which takes in suburban and exurban parts of the St. Louis metro area, including parts of St. Louis, St. Charles and Jefferson counties.

Schupp, 64, of Creve Coeur, did not return several requests for comment. She is a formidable fundraiser who has won the type of suburban swing district that has gravitated toward Democrats in recent election years.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which targeted the 2nd District in 2018, had been silent on challengers to Wagner throughout the summer as it scrambled to secure a candidate. The group declined to comment this week.
