Bill Maher: ‘I’m not an anti-vaxxer,’ but you’re never sticking me with a flu shot

Real Time host Bill Maher revisited his skepticism surrounding vaccines on Friday, while arguing that he was not specifically against measles vaccinations.

“I’m not an anti-vaxxer, I never have been,” he told his panel. “I’m an anti-flu shot guy. I think that’s bullsh*t and I think the fact that it was 23 percent effective this week bears that out. But if Ebola was airborne, I’d get the vaccine tomorrow.”

He complained that coverage of the issue demonized anti-vaccine arguments by unfairly comparing them to climate change deniers.

“I don’t think all science is alike,” Maher argued. “I think climate science is rather straightforward, ’cause you’re dealing with the Earth. It’s a rock. I’m not saying I know how to deal with it. But climate scientists, from the very beginning, have pretty much said the same thing. And their predictions have pretty much come true.”.

Aaron Schock Sells Home Above Market Value to Political Donor

Now there’s this: the month before the 2012 elections, Congressman Schock sold his house to a major Republican donor who was also one of his campaign supporters for a price that appears to far exceed the market value at the time. Memories of disgraced former GOP Congressman Duke Cunningham (CA) came flooding back into my head as I worked through the documents.

Here’s the background:

Ali Bahaj – then a Vice President at Caterpillar – and his wife Gloria have donated more than $45,000 over the last decade to the Caterpillar PAC and various Republican officeholders – including Congressman Schock. In fact, Federal Election Commission records show that Mr. and Mrs. Bahaj each made the maximum allowable donation to Aaron Schock’s campaign in 2008. These were legal donations and they aren’t the first or last time a Member of Congress received donations from constituents.

In turn, Congressman Schock has carried water repeatedly in Washington, D.C. for Caterpillar, even going on Fox News…

…to defend the company against what he claimed were “outrageous” attacks that “demonize” the company for avoiding $2.4 billion in taxes by shifting profits to a Swiss subsidiary. In fact, just last month, Schock defended the company’s move to lay off workers by blaming the problem on President Obama – a statement that earned him a rebuke from the State Journal-Register in Springfield.

Congressman Schock on October 16, 2012 sold his home to the Bahajs for $925,000. That’s more than three times the tax assessed value of the property. Zillow estimates that the house was worth approximately $695,000 that month.

Who needs a traditional brokerage firm anymore?

Planning up for retirement? Groups like Vanguard and T. Rowe Price make it simple to set up IRA's. Playing the stock market? There are many do-it-yourself sights with low, flat fees and tools to do your own research. My elderly dad goes the traditional border who, while a nice guy I can trust, charges a 7% commission. Now, my dad is old-school who still checks his investments in the newspaper. And of course the 1-percenters need help managing so many assets. But the rest of us? We should be able to do it on our own.

Prediction: Chris Christie will NOT run for President.

The base doesn't trust him, the establishment loves Bush and he has sky-high negatives in New Jersey. But more importantly, he's become a joke for falling out of chairs and dwelling in luxury boxes. When you become a joke, you become poison.

Chris Christie: Parents Should Have A 'Choice' In Vaccinating Kids

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said Monday that public officials need to strike a "balance" on vaccinations that allows parents "some measure of choice" in immunizing their children.

Christie was asked about a measles outbreak afflicting the western U.S. during a visit to a facility for MedImmune, an American company that manufactures a flu vaccine. The visit was part of the governor's three-day trip to London.

Asked about the outbreak's link to parents who object to the measles vaccine, Christie said that he and his wife chose to vaccinate his four children, according to the New York Times.

“It’s more important what you think as a parent than what you think as a public official," Christie said, as quoted by the Times. "I also understand that parents need to have some measure of choice in things as well. So that’s the balance that the government has to decide.”

Carnival Cruises just disgraced the memory of JFK.

I was in the kitchen hearing part of a speech by JFK and thought it was a U.S. Navy ad. But as I walked in, I saw saw it was a crass commercial adverting cruises....disgusting.
