Arizona Rep: Hispanics Are Good Workers But The Undocumented Shouldn't Get COVID Vaccine

There are a lot of very stupid people in congress. Here's another one from Arizona that doesn't seem to understand that getting everyone the vaccine makes sense, while what she's saying is utter foolishness.

Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) defended an amendment that would put undocumented immigrants at the end of the line for a COVID vaccine by saying that she personally knew that Hispanic people are "very good workers."

The amendment was proposed during a hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Committee as it considered President Joe Biden's COVID-19 relief bill.

Lesko said it was "amazing" to her that Democrats voiced opposition to the amendment.

"I worked with people that are Hispanic, I mean, they're very good workers. You know, we're compassionate people, but for goodness' sakes, we have to take care of American citizens or people that are here legally first," she said.

Lesko said she would not be able to explain to senior citizens in her state why undocumented people would be getting the vaccine along with the rest of the population.

"I just think that's totally wrong," she concluded.

In Georgia, a New District Attorney Starts Circling Trump and His Allies

She laid out an array of possible criminal charges in letters sent to state officials and agencies asking them to preserve documents, providing a partial map of the potential exposure of Mr. Trump and his allies. Mr. Trump’s calls to state officials urging them to subvert the election, for instance, could run afoul of a Georgia statute dealing with “criminal solicitation to commit election fraud,” one of the charges outlined in the letters, which if prosecuted as a felony is punishable by at least a year in prison.

The misinformation spread by Mr. Giuliani could prove problematic, as Ms. Willis said in her letters that she would review “the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies.” Georgia law bars “any false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement” within “the jurisdiction of any department or agency of state government.”

Ms. Willis is also open to considering not just conspiracy but racketeering charges. As she put it in the interview, racketeering could apply to anyone who uses a legal entity — presumably anything from a government agency to that person’s own public office — to conduct overt acts for an illegal purpose. In this case, it applies to the pressure the president and his allies exerted on Georgia officials to overturn the election.

Ms. Willis has brought a novel racketeering case before. In 2014, as an assistant district attorney, she helped lead a high-profile criminal trial against a group of educators in the Atlanta public school system who had been involved in a widespread cheating scandal.

New York Prosecutors Investigating Trump's Manhattan Properties

“New York prosecutors are investigating financial dealings around some of Donald Trump’s signature Manhattan properties, extending the known range of the criminal probe of the former president and his company,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The people said Manhattan prosecutors are examining loans Mr. Trump took out on his flagship Fifth Avenue building, Trump Tower; 40 Wall St., an art deco skyscraper in New York City’s Financial District; Trump International Hotel and Tower, a hotel and condominium building at Columbus Circle; and Trump Plaza, an apartment building on Manhattan’s East Side.”

OH-SEN: Ohio businessman Mike Gibbons steps down from super PAC as he weighs Senate bid

Mike Gibbons, an Ohio businessman who unsuccessfully sought the state’s Republican Senate nomination in 2018, is stepping down from his role at the conservative super PAC he founded nearly two years ago, a sign that he is closing in on launching a second Senate bid.

Gibbons announced his resignation from Ohio Strong Action on Thursday. In a statement, Gibbons said that he plans to make a final decision on a Senate campaign “in the next few weeks,” noting that a “number of people” have urged him to run for retiring Sen. Rob Portman’s seat in 2022.

If he moves forward with a Senate bid, he said, he will immediately inject $5 million of his personal fortune into his campaign.

“I will be making a final decision about the Senate race in the next few weeks, and if I decide to run, my first act as a candidate will be to make an initial $5 million investment into my own campaign,” Gibbons said.

CA-GOV: Grenell lays groundwork for California gubernatorial run

WASHINGTON — Richard Grenell, a fierce ally of former President Donald Trump and a fixture in MAGA politics, is interviewing campaign strategists and laying groundwork for a potential run for California governor if the bid to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom goes forward, according to a Republican strategist who has spoken with Grenell about his plans.

The strategist said Grenell, the former ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence in the Trump administration, told him he plans to announce his campaign once the recall effort qualifies for the ballot, as appears increasingly likely.

A second strategist said Friday that Grenell is also speaking with major Southern California donors about a potential run.

The recall campaign, if it does qualify, would face long odds in heavily Democratic California, which has become more inhospitable to Republicans in the years since Democratic Gov. Gray Davis was recalled in 2003. And Grenell, due to his close ties to Trump, would appear to have a limited constituency in a state that Trump lost by nearly 30 percentage points in November.
