My condolences

It is always hard to lose a parent. She sounds like she was an exceptional woman.

Absolutely correct.

Unfortunately, this is spot on.

I've seen a number of posts here talking about how the momentum is building to remove Trump from power and I'm seeing the exact opposite. I see a lot of impotent bitching and moaning and complaining and exclamations of horror.

What I don't see is that there is anyone in the Republican Party that is a patriot any longer. The game is about money and power and that is all that matters to them. Most of their constituents feel exactly the same way. As long as they are on the winning side and get to call the shots they don't care if our entire system crumbles. It all comes down to who's ox is getting gored.

And, right now it is ours. But we don't have the power and we let the entire system be rigged against us to the point that the majority no longer rules in this country.

To turn this around is going to require a mobilization of progressive voters unlike anything before in the history of the United States.

Good one

I love the voice of ignorance and privilege. Chaffetz apparently hasn't even met any poor people.

I've been poor, but without the additional problem of being from the lower classes (yes,Virginia, class exists in America and always has), or worse yet being black, brown, immigrant. Or a combination of the two.

What you find, if you are poor, is that many are extraordinarily, kind, patient, and hard working. The amount of crap they calmly take in one year is many thousands of times what Chaffetz has or ever will experience.

I do not doubt that we could find a few examples of someone spending money on an iphone and not been able to pay the rent. But you wouldn't find many. We all do things that we shouldn't and decide to let the future take care of itself. But most of the time, they hang on to their money and make sure they can keep living inside. Healthcare?

Until the ACA it simply wasn't possible for many millions in the US. So, yes, these people without insurance went to urban hospital emergency rooms. Well, the ACA allowed millions to purchase health insurance. At the same time the ACA allowed millions lucky enough to be in the right states (not Texas) to qualify for Medicaid.

But there's a new sheriff in town and all this damn coddling of the teeming, undeserving poor will stop. Don't let them catch you with a new phone, a television, a car--God has decided to punish you for your poverty. You should suffer as you labor.

True Conservatives

True conservatives want more cruelty. Obamacare Lite is not sufficiently cruel. It doesn't simply end Medicaid. After all, Jesus said the poor don't want healthcare according to one Kansas representative (must be in a book of the New Testament that didn't make the Nicean cut).

People voted for these guys and gals and probably will again. Because somewhere there may be a brown or black person who is gaming the system and is getting something they're not. Because abortion. Because Hillary. Because Benghazi. Because WTF why not? Because Democrat bad. Republican good. Because a black guy was President.

A republic is not sustainable if most of the voting age populace is utterly ignorant. We have reached that tipping point.

Very fluent in bullshit

I couldn't stand to listen so I read the text.

If you can believe this then you might as well start believing in unicorns and pixie dust.

I mean seriously?

That some of the punditry are saying this was presidential is dismaying.

He can't do any of this--except the VOICE stuff. That he'll do.

God, we are so screwed.

There are certain things that you just don't do...

There are certain things that you just don't do. And this is one of them. It seems like Trump has developed an expertise at doing things that are not ever done. He seems to be getting away with them. But I think that the damage is incremental and slow. His approval ratings are going to continue to go down and down and down and down.

I would like to ask a nephew of mine, whom I know voted for Trump, what he thinks of this latest out rage. He has already expressed some discomfort with the notion of repealing Obamacare without a replacement. I wonder what he feels when their commander-in-chief of our military blames I casualty on the military itself.

Once you have offended the intelligence community and the military you've subtracted a sizable chunk a his base. Can he then recover? He's somehow remained unscathed when he's done other things that just aren't done.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait and see.

I agree

This was the central mistake in my opinion. She failed to talk about what the Democrats would do in office. She spent much of the campaign focused on how unsuitable Trump is for the Presidency and on her decades of experience in politics.

But she only occasionally spoke about what she and the rest of the Democratic establishment would do to make life better for those that felt abandoned and forgotten.

She was running against someone that kept telling the electorate that he was going to make America great again, bring the jobs back, drain the swamp. It was all BS but Trump knew that he just had to keep the rubes believing until the deal was closed (sad thing is is that most of them still believe in spite of the last few weeks).

Clinton is a sincere, sober realist who couldn't bring herself to make promises she might have been unable to keep. It cost her the election.

Can't possibly be for real!

This can't be a real conversation. Borowitz or The Onion.
