I am so happy, my 83 year old mother is reading again............

She had cataract surgery a year ago. She stopped reading because she said her eyes got heavy and tired. This past summer I enrolled her in the Library's summer reading program. You had to meet your stated goal of books to read, in her case 3 and if you read those books you got a free book from the Library. She got a free book.

Within the past 4 weeks she has outdone her summer goal of 3, by reading 4 and she started her 5th this morning. I get her large print which seems easier for her. There is a TV show on the Hallmark Movie Channel, called "Cedar Cove", which she thoroughly enjoys. When I went to the library I found the series of Cedar Cove books in large print. I brought one home not knowing if she'd like it(Mom's usual genre is murder mysteries). She did like it and started a thriller I brought this morning.

I am so glad she's reading again.

This is what happens when I login at healthcare.gov

Not only is this occurring, but when I attempt to log in, it won't accept my ID or password. When I request the ID be sent to my email (on the off chance I'm wrong) 7 hours later it's still not in my inbox. WTF

What no one is truly talking about in regard to the Health Care Law........

What I understand will be available in the Health Care Exchanges are Bronze, Silver & one higher plan. The Bronze will cover 60%% of health care costs, Bronze 70%(?) and the last I assume will cover 80% of health care costs.

What I'm not hearing is how someone is supposed to come up with the 40, 30 or 20% of health care costs. One catastrophic injury or illness can send someone into bankruptcy. Even having to pay 40% of prescription costs can be unrealistic for some people.

I'm not working, so my projected income for 2014 is $0. I've tried applying for Medicaid, but since my 83 year old mother lives with me, they include her income as "family" income, and I own my home, I've been denied coverage. My state is not expanding Medicaid, I still wouldn't be eligible. So I will have to go to the exchange. I've done the projections and my Bronze plan on the exchange would be $1156 per year, which I don't have. Even if I could pay for it, I would be stuck with paying 40% of health care costs, which is unthinkable.

I want what my 83 year old mother has, Medicare. She actually has a Medicare Advantage Plan. The highest out of pocket expense she could have on this plan is $250, which is for a hospital stay.

The Insurance Companies still have control, people will still be in Bankruptcy Court and will not seek out medical care.

I want what my 83 year old mother has MEDICARE.

Nephew had the job, then they said no. story follows.........

My nephew graduated from college this past May with a BA in Political Science. He's pondering grad school, but not for another year or two. In the mean time he needs employed. He was offered a full time (with benefits position) at a major Department Store. He had a time scheduled to finish the processing for his I-9 information.

He goes to Human Relations at the appointed time, meets with the administrator who had offered him the position, and she told him even though she had offered the position, she had to pull the offer because one of the managers of the department he was going to work in, had offered the position to an associate.

This is getting ridiculous. In this case HR and management didn't communicate. Why even advertise jobs that are going to be given to internal candidates?

If he's unlucky, he'll be like me, near 3 years without a job.

On editing: where the hell was brain & fingers when I originally posted this?

Someone shopping at St. Vincent DePaul's Thrift Store.............

may be very happy. I've lost a lot of weight over the past few years (100 to be exact). Today I decided to clean out my closet. I kept a lot of clothes, because I was afraid of gaining the weight back. A year ago I was wearing size 20W, went to Kohl's yesterday (had a gift card from Christmas) and found that I wear a misses size 14.

Tomorrow I will be depositing in St. Vincent's bin (behind a local church), 11 pair of slacks and jeans. 7 of them are LL Bean corduroys, jeans and wool (washable). The rest are from Chadwick's, JC Penney, and Kohl's. 2 pair of shorts, 1 pair of capri pants, 2 flannel shirts and a pair of white wool pants. I loved the white wool, wore them around the holidays with a red sweater.

Geez, when I was working and had money, I bought nice clothes. A few weeks ago I went to St. Vincent's and found a pair of never worn JC Crew corduroy slacks, tags still attached for $7.99, and I didn't pay for them, Mom did.

I have checked all the pockets and did find $7.00.
