Rep. Thaddeus McCotter Resigns After ‘Nightmarish’ Month

Source: ABC News

(Michigan Republican Thad McCotter (R) resigns, effective immediately. )

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter has apparently reached his breaking point. The Michigan Republican announced Friday evening that he is resigning from Congress after a string of “calumnies, indignities and deceits.”

In the past year McCotter failed at running for president, failed to collect enough petition signatures to get on the ballot for his re-election and, to add insult to injury, stirred up controversy this week after a racy TV pilot he wrote was leaked to the press by a former staffer.

“After nearly 26 years in elected office, this past nightmarish month and a half have, for the first time, severed the necessary harmony between the needs of my constituency and of my family,” McCotter wrote in a statement that was as unique as the representative that wrote it. “As this harmony is required to serve, its absence requires I leave.”

Just announced- Michigan performance on Monday!

From State of Michigan Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer:

=======
Friends,

I'm excited to tell you that on Monday, June 18th, Sen. Rebekah Warren, myself and a number of our colleagues will be joined by Tony Award winning playwright and V-Day Founder/Artistic Director Eve Ensler for a special performance of Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues on the steps of the Michigan Capitol. The performance, which will take place between 6pm and 8pm, is part of an organized response to the recent banning of Michigan State Representative Lisa Brown from publicly speaking in the House of Representatives.

As you've likely heard by now, Rep. Brown was banned by Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas and House Republicans for using the word “vagina” during a debate on a bill that puts new restrictions on women's healthcare choices. This event will call on supporters from across the state to speak up and let the House Republicans know that attempting to silence our voices is simply not acceptable.

I look forward to joining these powerful women from across the nation in sending a message that we are proud of ourselves, proud of our bodies and proud of the message that we have to offer. I want my two daughters to know that their Mom and countless other women stood up for them as they grow into the next generation of strong women.

I hope you'll join us as we take part in this historic event. We've set up a Facebook event page where you can RSVP and share the details with your friends and family. It can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/events/268583796582574

Please take a moment to forward this email or click the "send to a friend" link below so that others can hear about this exciting opportunity as well.

We'll be gathering at the capitol shortly before 6pm on Monday and I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Gretchen Whitmer Signature

Gretchen Whitmer

Censorship- Women told to sit down and shut up.

LANSING - Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas (R-Midland) today banned two Democratic women legislators from speaking on the House Floor as the House of Representatives takes up its final legislation before the summer recess. State Representatives Lisa Brown (D-West Bloomfield) and Barb Byrum (D-Onondaga) were not told why the ban was put in place, but it is widely believed it stems from their opposition to radical anti-choice legislation that passed the House yesterday.

"Both Representative Byrum and I were gaveled down without cause yesterday while voicing our opposition to the Republican's war on women here in Michigan, "said Rep. Brown. "Regardless of their reasoning, this is a violation of my First Amendment rights and directly impedes my ability to serve the people who elected me into office. I was either banned for being Jewish and rightfully pointing out that House Bill 5711 was forcing contradictory religious beliefs upon me and any other religion. Or it is because I said the word 'vagina' which is an anatomically, medically correct term. If they are going to legislate my anatomy, I see no reason why I cannot mention it."

HB 5711 which passed 70-39 with one Representative abstaining addresses treatment of fetal remains, coercive abortion screening, physician liability and rules for certain abortion facilities.

State reviews U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter's petitions for criminal fraud

State reviews U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter's petitions for criminal fraud

Brian Dickerson: Thaddeus McCotter turns election cakewalk into Mt. Everest

Photocopies of petitions, dates that were cut and pasted onto the petition forms and different-colored ink on identical petitions were just a few of the tactics used to try to fool state election officials into believing that U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter had enough signatures to get on the Aug. 7 primary ballot.

"This wasn't anything that was an innocent mistake," Lansing political consultant Tom Shields said Tuesday. "It was purely an attempt to make up for a lack of signatures, which is politically criminal."

Or maybe just plain criminal. The state Attorney General's Office is investigating to determine whether any laws were broken.

"We will review information provided by the Secretary of State and determine whether additional action is warranted," said Joy Yearout, spokeswoman for Attorney General Bill Schuette.

The ploy was so clumsy that it was easily spotted.

Bureau of Elections Director Christopher Thomas said Tuesday that elections officials found an "unprecedented level" of obvious fraud, including dozens of identical petition sheets that had been photocopied. In some cases, the petitions were identical except for the name of the circulator.

How about this? POLICE CHANGE SIDES!

How about this!
From Occupy Frankfurt. May 19, 2012.
The German police took off their helmets and marched with the protesters- clearing the way for them.

The police coming over to serve and protect the people... Blockupy Frankfurt. Police are escorting. Reports of an estimated 20,000+ protesters. Nice to see their faces.... and their humanity coming through...

WATCH THIS VIDEO: #blockupy. Frankfurt

German police officers escort an anti-capitalism protest march with some 20,000 people in Frankfurt, Germany, Saturday, May 19, 2012. Protesters peacefully filled the city center of continental Europe's biggest financial hub in their protest against the dominance of banks and what they perceive to be untamed capitalism, Frankfurt police spokesman Ruediger Regis said. The protest group calling itself Blockupy has called for blocking the access to the European Central Bank, which is located in Frankfurt's business district. (AP Photo/Michael Probst)

OBAMA WINS IN A LANDSLIDE!

Yesterday, I was honored to participate with my fellow Michigan democrats in our Caucus process.

For the first time in my life (I'm 51), I was able to cast a Caucus vote for my President. In our tiny group, 25 people cast votes. And I am proud to report that our caucus was 100% in favor of re-electing our Commander in Chief.

Today the paper is reporting that similar things happened in many other groups across our state, and President Obama won in a landslide.

Now...on to November.
