It Isn't Christmas without Yogi Yorgesson

I grew up listening to these old 78s around this time of year.

Since We're Feeling a Little Celebratory Tonight

Here are a couple of my favorite pieces:

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Cortez Masto's Statement on Franken

While Cortez Masto was not one of those who came out publicly about Franken resigning, sher has an opinion.

https://www.cortezmasto.senate.gov/news/press-releases/cortez-masto-statement-on-resignation-of-senator-al-franken

Here is the entirety:

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after Senator Al Franken’s announcement that he will resign:

“I am extremely disappointed in Senator Franken. The experiences shared by the brave women who have come forward show a disturbing pattern of behavior.

“Throughout my career as a prosecutor and Nevada’s Attorney General, I’ve stood up to support survivors of sexual violence and misconduct. My time working with these survivors has shown me that the epidemic of sexual harassment and sexual assault is bigger than one Senator and that the culture of the United States Congress must change. That begins with reforming the Ethics process to clearly set the highest standards of conduct for Members of Congress and to enforce severe sanctions for Members and staff that engage in this inappropriate conduct. The United States Senate must undertake a comprehensive effort to conduct the ethics process in an open, swift, and thorough manner.

“This revised process must restore the faith of the American people in this institution. I am working with my colleagues on the Rules Committee on bipartisan solutions to fix this broken and outdated process. We must stop using taxpayer dollars to settle sexual harassment claims. We must create an environment where every woman or man feels empowered to come forward. We must reform the Senate’s outdated rules and practices to reflect a higher standard of conduct for Members and staff, and protect the survivors that break their silence.”

She doesn't say anything different from what any of the others have to say.

A Question about Beef

I bought a chuck roast the other day. I was cutting it up just now when I noticed something weird. There were little black areas in the meet. The best way to describe them is that they were patterned like watermelon seeds, but they were soft and squishy. There was another black area that was more like the pattern that fat takes in beef.

Then, I looked at one "seed" and it looked like a worm, about a centimeter long. It wasn't moving.

I googled the heck out of this, but I can't find anything that matches the description of the meat I bought. Is this normal for cheap cuts of beef? Is it just coagulated bits of blood?

All this kinda freaked me out. Can anyone explain this?

A Little Music for Tonight's Celebration

Check In If You Are Stunned

I live miles away and found out about it because of a post here on DU around 11pm last night. Except for sleeping, I've been glued to local news.

Let's be a DU support group. Did you know anybody there? How are you feeling?

It Looks Like a Storm System Is Forming Just South of Baja California

I went to the wind maps to check on Jose and the new system just off Africa's west coast and it jumped out at me: there is a tight circular formation just south of Baja California's southern tip.

Here are the maps I look at. You can drag the maps anywhere you want.

I Need Help Finding a Video on YouTube

A black comedian, probably in his thirties, did a couple songs as Obama. He sat in the mountains on a cliff playing a ukulele or mandolin. It was about the sequester and one line was about how Boehner would dance like Mitzi Gaynor when he had been drinking. At the end, he dropped his mandolin over the edge and said that it was a long way down.

Please help!

Statues of Jefferson and Washington and Local Decisions

shitgibbon asked if statues of Jefferson and Washington are coming down next. Is this just more proof of his dementia?

Jefferson and Washington were not traitors to the United States. Confederate soldiers were. Why in hell would we want to erect statues to those who took up arms against the US? Way to change the subject there, orange boy.

As for leaving it up to the local jurisdiction to decide when to take a statue down, Joy just said that it is exactly what Charlottesville did. The city decided to take the statue down and a bunch of racist outsiders descended to protest it. So much for the WH squatter's respect of a local decision.

Tell Me Something I Don't Know

Thread title shamelessly stolen from Chris Matthews.

Tell us a helpful hint or life hack that would make things a little easier for your readers.

Here's mine:

If you are sick of seeing those irritating popups on YouTube videos, go to the settings icon along the bottom. It looks like a little gear with cogs. Click once and turn off "Annotations" by clicking on the left of the slide bar. That brings the circle to the left and most of those popups no longer appear.

If someone could tell us how to make that a permanent setting, I would be grateful.

Your helpful hint does not have to be about the internet. It could be something as simple as dumping a cupful of vinegar in the kitchen drain once a week to cut down on mold and odors (that one was free).
