red dog 1's JournalSensing Chaos, Russia Takes A "Wait-And-See" Approach To Trump
Democracy Now
March 1, 2017
Despite ordering an "influence campaign" to help Donald Trump in last year's election, the Kremlin is scrambling to respond to a win it didn't expect.
New Yorker editor David Remnick and staff writer Evan Osnos tell "Fresh Air's" Terry Gross.
Remnick, who lived and worked in Moscow from 1988 to 1992 and Osnos say Trump's victory has created unintended consequences for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"This was like a bank heist that, instead of blowing the doors off the safe, they blew the safe up entirely," Osnos says.
Remnick adds that Russian state-controlled media, which was full of praise for Trump during the campaign, has changed it's outlook of late.
"We've now had a month of chaos, and they've decided to take much more of a wait-and-see attitude."
Osnos and Remnick collaborated with contributor Joshua Yaffa to report on Trump, Putin and the "new Cold War" for the current issue of The New Yorker.
The title of their article, "Active Measures," is a reference to the type of intelligence operation in which the goal is to take active measures to influence events and undermine a rival power.

On Tuesday, House Republicans Will Betray Their Oaths, Their Country & The American People
Daily Kos
Sunday, February 26, 2017
Next Tuesday, on February 28, the United States will witness what may be the single greatest act of collective treachery by it's elected government officials since the Confederate States voted to secede from the Union in 1860 and 1861.
And in all livelihood, the U.S. media will completely ignore it.
On Tuesday, the Republican-dominated House Judiciary Committee is expected to reject House Democrats' Resolution for a formal inquiry into the potential ethical and legal violations committed by the Trump campaign apparatus in it's contacts, communications and financial transactions with Russia during the run-up to Trump's election last November, and throughout the transition since then.
It will also reject calls to examine evidence of Trump's solicitation and receipt of foreign gifts intended to influence American policy, and the potential violations of the Emoluments Clause of the United States Constitution.
The evidence pointing to Trump's betrayal of American strategic interests has (thus far) included illegal contacts between Trump emissaries and Putin officials concerning the lifting of existing U.S. sanctions, evidence that the Trump campaign was aware of and likely complicit in Russian efforts to sway the election to Trump through Russian propaganda, and evidence suggesting that Trump himself may be compromised and subject to Russian blackmail due to either his financial dealings or his unusual sexual proclivities.
These issues, unearthed by our intelligence agencies, directly implicate the integrity of our national government.
It's difficult to imagine any matter that could be more compelling for investigation and resolution.
This is, in essence, a determination whether an elected President has been corrupted, compromised, or tainted by a hostile foreign power.

Meet the Leaders of the Trump Resistance
Rolling Stone Magazine

Donald Trump is riding into office on a make-believe mandate.
Despite a possible assist from Vladimir Putin, Trump lost the popular vote by more than 2.8 million votes, and he's taking command of the Oval Office with the lowest favorability rating in modern memory: 37 percent.
"A normal politician would be chastened by that," says John Weaver, a leading Republican Trump-critic, who advised Ohio Gov. John Kasich's presidential bid.
"But the rules don't apply to him."
Trump's surprise victory, Weaver says, "emboldened him somehow."
To put government power behind his darkest campaign rhetoric, Trump has assembled an extreme team - a crew that includes proud Islamophobes, heroes to white supremacists, defenders of torture, and executives from ExxonMobil and Wall Street.
"What he's going to do at a policy level is much worse than most liberals understand," says Van Jones, the executive director of the Dream Corps and a CNN contributor.
"It's going to be a Blitzkrieg from above - against everything we care about."
The Trump agenda threatens the welfare of women, immigrants, LGBGQ Americans and, through climate denial, the health of the planet itself.
"You're talking about the rights and lives of millions of Americans at stake," says Anthony Romero, executive director of the ACLU.

President _______? (Any word but Trump)
I'm sorry - I just can't take it anymore...I listen to the radio a lot, especially public radio, and even on news programs like "Democracy Now" when they mention the words:
"President Trump"..I just want to vomit.
How about "President Drumpf" instead?..After all, his grandfather's original name was
"Friedrich Drumpf" but that name was anglicized to "Frederick Trump".
How about "President Chump"?
How about "President Twitler"? or "President Twitter"? or even "President Twit"?
"President Twit"...I like that one.
"twit" is defined by Merriam-Webster as
"a silly, annoying person...a fool."
.
"twit" is defined by Urban Dictionary as
"the kind of person who makes a retarded chimp look smart."
What do you think?
Why did Donald Trump cross the road?
To attempt to rape a chicken on the other side?
Attend a Resistance Recess Event; Save our Health Care, Our Communities & Our Democracy

The week of February 18-25 is the first recess of the 115th Congress - time specifically set aside for members of Congress to meet with constituents and get the pulse of the communities they represent.
This is the perfect time to raise our voices.
We will show up at our elected officials' events, town halls, other public appearances, and even plan our own events, if they refuse to meet with us, to make it clear to those who represent us, as well as to the media, that tolerance of Trump's hurtful agenda is unacceptable and politically toxic.
WILL YOU JOIN FELLOW CONSTITUENTS AND ATTEND A RESISTANCE RECESS ACTION NEAR YOU?
Enter your zip code or view the map to search for an event near you.

Freedom Caucus founder Rep. Jim Jordan forced to have town meeting when constituents show up
Daily Kos
February 20, 2017
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) decided to skip the in-person town hall meeting this week.
So his constituents figured out his schedule, and took the town meeting to him, as chronicled by Dave Weigel on Twitter.
Things got heated, fast, as the crowd waited to confront him about a variety of things, looking at all the signs in the crowd, but particularly climate change and Obamacare.
He's telling the crowd: "It's time to change Obamacare, and bring back insurance that actually empowers you, actually empowers you and not Washington, D.C."
He has a hard time actually getting that sentence out over the crowd's shouts of "Lies."
He was really committed to the lying part, not just telling the crowd "our plan intends to bring back insurance that's affordable," (there isn't a plan in the first place) and this one, on Medicaid and what's going to happen to rural hospitals.
The question is a smart one - repealing Obamacare and killing the Medicaid expansion, turning it into a block grant - would be devastating to rural hospitals that rely on that funding.
Jordan not only refuses to answer that question, he says that "defunding Planned Parenthood would free up money for them," as Weigel paraphrases.
