Mike Rowe, the star of “Dirty Jobs,” expressed his Republican leanings when he insulted Bernie Sanders for a tweet suggesting the government should pay for the college education of U.S. citizens as a way to lessen the costs of incarceration.
Mike Rowe wrote,
“I wonder sometimes, if the best way to question the increasingly dangerous idea that a college education is the best path for the most people, is to stop fighting the sentiment directly, and simply shine a light on the knuckleheads who continue to perpetuate this nonsense.”
Rowe is upset with the idea of the federal government paying for college educations and is responding to tweet sent by Senator Sanders. In his rant, he takes the position not everyone wants a college education and asks, “Is it possible that Senator Sanders doesn’t realize the number of college graduates with criminal records?”
Mr. Rowe is referring to a tweet from Bernie Sanders he found offensive. Bernie tweeted, “At the end of the day, providing a path to go to college is a helluva lot cheaper than putting people on a path to jail.”
It would seem Mike Rowe is unaware of a recent study preformed by Ohio State University on this very topic, showing there is hard evidence supporting Bernie’s tweet. Rowe has used what is becoming the standard for attacking Bernie Sanders. Unable to find a “real” fault to attack, he has chosen to insult Senator Sanders by taking statements (and/or tweets) out of context and going on an angry rant.
This is the position taken by most Republican presidential hopefuls. They are using emotions, rather intellectual themes, to attack their opponents. This tactic works on a small portion of the population, but, generally speaking, most adults living in the United States are capable of intelligent thought, and do not make decisions based on emotional reactions.
Bernie Sanders is a self-described democratic socialist, and has sought to bring attention to the way free education is provided by other countries, Sweden and Norway being his favorite examples. So there is no confusion, Bernie supports free tuition at public colleges and universities.
With the understanding that a college education does decrease the odds of criminal activity, per the Ohio State study, the question then becomes, is Michael Rowe a knucklehead?

Magical Piano
Train passengers enjoy a Magical Piano in Chicago Union Station that responds in real time to it’s environment. Most of the people interacting with the piano had no idea that it would automatically play, however, some people had heard about it so they knew what to expect. An entertaining video from Rob Bliss Creative who partnered with Amtrak to place the piano in Chicago Union Station.
