Media Silent On This Unarmed Black Woman Shot By the Police

A cop just walked after murdering an innocent, unarmed woman. Like so many other cases of murder why killer cops walk, the victim was African American. But for some reason, even though the judge admits the officer was in the wrong, the killer walked and no one in the national mainstream media is even talking about it.

Chicago Police Detective Dante Servin was just found not guilty on Monday, in charges related to Rekia Boyd.

The judge ruled that even though Detective Servin fatally shot an unarmed woman, he should not be convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

The New York Times claims BDS is the reason for “a wedge between Jews and minorities” on campus

idiotic.
a person could be a Jew and a "minority".
and - what is a "minority"? White people are a minority.

"To really assess just how bad this piece of journalism is, and the cavalier way in which the New York Times engaged in yellow journalism so as to actually exacerbate conditions on U.S. campuses, it’s important to separate myth from reality."

If you or someone you know has a chronic health condition-

If you or someone you know has a chronic health condition-
consider these workshops which are given in various places across the country:
Chronic Disease Self-Management Program

"The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program is a workshop given two and a half hours, once a week, for six weeks, in community settings such as senior centers, churches, libraries and hospitals. People with different chronic health problems attend together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom are non-health professionals with chronic diseases themselves.

Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition, 6) decision making, and, 7) how to evaluate new treatments.

It is the process in which the program is taught that makes it effective. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives."

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) - Patient Education - Department of Medicine - Stanford University School of Medicine

I am currently in a program, and find it very valuable.
This is not a medical program, it is lead by trained personal who have a chronic illness themselves.
The aim is to break down the depression, frustration, and isolation that can result from having a chronic illness.

Examples of health conditions which would bring someone to such a group include any condition which impacts/limits your life, such as Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, arthritis, depression, fibromyalgia, diabetes, pain, pulmonary issues, heart disease, cognitive difficulties...

It is FREE, funded by Medicare.
you do not have to be on medicare to participate.

Obama to Visit Nike to Promote Free Trade Deal

UGH
"Obama apparently believes visiting a company known for using sweatshop labor is a good way to promote what he says is the “most progressive trade deal in history.”

U.S. President Barack Obama will be visiting Nike’s Oregon headquarters Friday in a bid to promote the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade deal currently being with 11 other Pacific Rim nations.

Obama’s choice of Nike, a company that had been consistently called out by human rights and labor groups for its unethical business practices around the world, such as the use of child labor, is something free trade critics suggest is actually fitting.

“With less than 1 percent of its more than 1 million production jobs located in the United States, Nike perfectly depicts America’s lost-jobs, low-wage future under the Trans-Pacific Partnership,” said Elizabeth Swager, director of the Oregon Fair Trade Campaign.

Why Did Ferguson and Baltimore Erupt? Look to the Government-Backed History of Housing Segregation

"Following the police killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, last August, I wrote The Making of Ferguson, a history of the state-sponsored segregation in St. Louis County that set the stage for police-community hostility there. Virtually every one of the racially explicit federal, state and local policies of segregation pursued in St. Louis has a parallel in policies pursued by government in Baltimore."

Metropolitan Los Angeles & downtown Dallas both hit by fracking earthquakes

5/3-A borderline 4.0M earthquake struck Los Angeles, directly at a fracking / oil operation located in DOWNTOWN Los Angeles, California.

Also, after weeks of silence, a 3.2M earthquake struck a fracking operation located in downtown Dallas Texas.

Texas officials, just like the California officials, are also in denial about fracking induced earthquakes.

great article on activism vs electioneering by David Swanson

I’m not against elections. I think we should have one some day. At the presidential level we do not currently have elections. That office is not up for election; it is up for sale.

The complete breakdown of the presidential election system is made obvious to some by the pairing of another Clinton against another Bush. Sanders muddies that clear picture, but only if you imagine he actually has a chance. On that basis, some will now propose to take a year away from policy-based principled activism, after which, the thinking will go, what’s another half a year for hold-your-nose lesser-evilist Clinton campaigning? And, please understand, by entering the Democratic primaries, Sanders has committed to supporting the Democratic Party nominee and to encouraging his supporters to support her.

Activism gave women the right to vote. Activism got kids out of factories. Activism got the Navy out of Vieques. Activism won the last civil rights movement. Activism has always been the driving force for change. Two years of “registering voters” busy work out of every four years, and the reliance on corrupt figures that it creates, drains away our activism. It was activism that forced President Bush in 2008 to end the war on Iraq as of 2011 in a treaty signed by himself and Iraqi President Maliki. It was the antiwar uproar of the Bush years that led Congress members to think twice about voting for a new war in 2013 and has left them incapable of formally supporting the new war in Iraq that President Obama launched in 2014 despite the feelings of any number of people who believed that voting for him was somehow a significant act.

i'm going to ask a question here, cuz I can't find a place to ask it.

first a disclaimer, I know this group is a refuge from politics, and I am not trying to bring politics in, but I'm using a political issue as an example.

I try to understand how do peoples' minds work, esp people I disagree with.
Not for ex climate deniers - I don't try to understand how their mind works.
but suppose someone seemingly shares my values and then supports things which are counter to these values.

Cognitive dissonance it is called and it is highly evident here at du.

is anyone here interested in discussing this. I don't feel like bringing up something and then being smashed for it, and serving no purpose except to get people driven by their drama.

this group seems to be a place where people are thoughtful, and I can't find any place on du for thoughtful discussion. Am I missing it? Bec. if there is no such place, that would account for a lot of what I hate about du.

thank you for your thoughts.
