center rising's JournalMy next door neighbor is voting for Romney, here's why!!
Was talking with my next door neighbor this morning, just back from a six month tour of duty in Germany, and he told me he was voting for Mitt Romney. After I got over the shock of that little announcement, (He's an independent, who usually votes Democrat), I asked him why he would do just a stupid thing. He told me that he agreed with Romney assertion about the 47% of Americans being lazy, and want the government to bail them out.
I told him he was wrong about the 47%, and I told him most Americans are hard working and that Romney's policies would hurt the majority of Americans. Medicare and social security would be phased out, the deficit would balloon out of control, RoeVWade would be overturned, and a whole host of other things would affect the middle class and poor!!
He told me that Obama had four years to fix things and he has done a horrible job at doing so. I told him the Republicans in Congress has obstructed everything Obama has tried to do He said that didn't make any difference seeing that the Senate and the presidency were Democratically controlled, and Obama could have put through anything he wanted!! I told him that the Republicans filibustered Obama for 4 years.
Then the truth came out. Seems those men in Germany he was over there with convinced him that Obama was this evil, nasty socialist BLACK MAN, who had to be stopped at all costs!! I called him a racist!! With that, he became angry and slammed the door in my face.
Is there any reason to try to talk to him again, or should I just ignore him and cancel his vote by voting Obama?? My neighbor seems like a reasonable man, who has just been listening to the wrong people. It's just absolutely insane that we have people in this country and abroad who think like this.
