Democrats Just Flipped A Kentucky State Senate Seat The GOP Held For 25 Years

Democrats won a special election to fill a vacant Kentucky state Senate seat this week, flipping a district Republicans held for decades and signaling that the suburban shift that helped create a blue wave in 2018’s midterm elections may continue in 2020.

Dr. Karen Berg defeated Republican candidate Bill Ferko by 14 points to win the race to replace longtime GOP state Sen. Ernie Harris, who retired in April after holding the seat in suburban Louisville for 25 years. Berg narrowly lost to Harris in the 2018 general election, but will now hold the seat until that term expires in 2022. The win marked the first time Kentucky Democrats have flipped a state Senate seat since 2010.

Berg’s victory, which was announced Tuesday after officials finished counting absentee ballots in the June 23 election, will barely dent Republicans’ grip on the Kentucky state Senate, where the GOP still holds a supermajority. But it is the latest sign of trouble for the GOP in the suburbs of Kentucky’s largest city and may foreshadow further problems for the party in November as its suburban base continues to erode under President Donald Trump.

There are doom and gloom posts all over DU imploring us not to believe the polls. JUST STOP!

First of all the polls in 16 were not that far off in the states that gave Trump his victory...WI, MI and PA. And Hillary was ahead in the national polls and did win the popular vote by three million votes. Also, it was too late for polling to capture the damage Comey did at the end of the campaign. Trump eked out a small victory in the MI, WI and PA ...there likely was cheating involved. But every one of those states now has a Democratic government, and the polls in those states were not off by more than a couple of point

This election is not 16. We have a pandemic, an economic debacle and civil unrest. If one looks at history. Trump is not likely to be elected and the polls show he is losing badly. I celebrate those polls and feel the doom and gloom OP's serve no useful purpose. The posters offer no suggestions about how we avoid 'complacency or over confidence' ...some basically say really why bother as the Russians will make sure Trump wins...so inspiring . Thus I will repeat myself...for the love of Goddess PLEASE STOP!

A worker in my sister in law's nursing home tested positive for Covid19 yesterday.

She worked on the other side but still who knows how long she was infectious and how many people are infected. I asked her if she wanted to come home but she had fallen and broker he leg in three places and is afraid not to have round the clock care. She is my husband's oldest sister and likes the place. It is a one of the good ones...so sad today. I hope she will be OK.
