Hindus Propose Giant Monkey God Statue On Oklahoma Capitol Grounds
How’s that law for religious displays working out for you, right-wing Christians of Oklahoma? Sure, you got to put up your giant 10 commandments monument in front of the State House. But this opened up the door for the Satanic Temple to ask for a memorial. Now, the Hindus are calling for their own religious statue to be placed on the state capitol grounds in Oklahoma City.
Hindu group wants to erect a giant statue of Lord Hanuman.
A Hindu group, the Universal Society of Hinduism, has added their voice to those wishing to place a sacred memorial on the Okla. state capitol grounds.
The Universal Society of Hinduism’s president Rajan Zed petitioned the state for “permission to place a statue of Lord Hanuman” on the public space. He goes on to say that: “This statue would raise awareness of Oklahomans about Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought,” Zed stated.

Shingo, 34, used to live in Odaka-ku with his family. Their "favorite house" with an ocean view was washed away 20 meters inland by the tsunami. Where he stands was once a stable on the side of the house, now nothing is left but the foundation. "We enjoyed watching the ocean from this point," Shingo says, "All the belongings including armor for Soma Nomaoi and two horses that we had taken care of as family were washed away."
For more than 1,000 years people of Fukushima Prefecture in Japan have gathered every summer to celebrate an ancient tradition of the samurai. The Soma Namaoi festival is as much a part of their heritage as the warrior and equestrian culture it reenacts and honors, and in the face of radiation from the nearby Daiichi nuclear reactor, they’ve decided the show must go on.
Tokyo photographer Noriki Takasugi’s series Fukushima Samurai — The Story of Identity captures the samurai of the Soma Nomaoi festival as they risk their own health to sustain a tradition that largely defines them.
Many of the men in Takasugi’s photos are from the hard-hit town of Odaka-ku, who along with thousands of others in Fukushima were displaced or saw their homes destroyed when its residential coastlines were swept away in the tsunami of 2011. Along with the houses went the accoutrements of Soma Nomaoi — their weapons, their ceremonial Jinbaori clothing, and, sadly, their horses. Much of what they’ve worn for the festival since the tsunami is borrowed or otherwise cobbled together, and after spending months in the vicinity of the Daiichi plant before daytime visits were again allowed, many of the clothes they did retrieve were likely irradiated. In the Odaku-ku area, Takasugi says her geiger counter measures radiation between five and 50 times the levels registered in her Tokyo neighborhood.
“None of the people I asked cared about the irradiated clothes,” says Takasugi. “It was my impression that it was more important for them to have their weapons and their ceremonial costumes.”

Canada Will Seek Possession of the North Pole

Canada signalled intentions to claim the North Pole and surrounding Arctic waters while announcing Monday the filing of a UN application seeking to vastly expand its Atlantic sea boundary.
After a decade of surveying the country’s eastern and far north seabeds and gathering supporting evidence, a claim was submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf on Friday.
Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said the filing mainly concerns the outer limits of Canada’s continental shelf in the Atlantic Ocean.
But it also includes “preliminary information concerning the outer limits of (Canada’s) continental shelf in the Arctic Ocean,” he said.

I was being hunted, harassed and stalked by criminals with technological expertise. I had been thrust into an unexpected war. I felt exposed, vulnerable and alone on the front line. I hurried home from the hardware store with my all-important purchase: heavy-duty padlocks. I knew I had to secure the gates at my residence, so that an intruder or a team of intruders could not access my backyard and possibly my home.
I pulled into my driveway and scanned the street, glad that the suspicious white car with the young, male driver was no longer present. It had been there on the previous evening, according to my daughter, Kayla. She’d seen it when she returned from work, and she had monitored it for several hours until it disappeared. She did not report the incident to me until the next day.

GOP Rep. Ted Yoho invites kids to ‘purchasing firearms’ class on Sandy Hook anniversary

Republican Florida Congressman Ted Yoho has invited families in his district to attend a firearms safety course on the one year anniversary of the day that 20-year-old Adam Lanza stole his mother’s assault rifle and massacred 20 elementary school children in Newtown, Connecticut.
In a posting on Facebook, Yoho encouraged parents to bring “kids for an educational event on gun safety, purchasing firearms, legal requirements and safety standards while encouraging responsible firearm ownership.”
Yoho’s spokesperson Omar Raschid told The Gainesville Sun that the congressman had not intended for the class to fall on the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings.
“The Congressman’s prayers will certainly be with the victims and families of such an unspeakable tragedy,” Raschid said in a statement. “This event focuses on responsible firearm ownership and safety. Safety education is an integral part of responsible firearm ownership, and that is what the goal of this event is.”
