Husky gets caught stealing bones and treats from store in double-dash

A crafty canine has been causing a bit of stir in one town after it is alleged to have gone on a shoplifting spree for treats.

Cato the husky casually strolled up the Dollar General store in Clinton, South Carolina, and entered the doors with other customers.

But little did the store owners know that the stealthy pooch had actually come to make off with pig ears, beef bones, dog food and treats.

Noticing that some goods were missing, store manager Anastasia Polson had a look over the CCTV and was surprised to see that the perpetrator was slightly more hirsute than she’d expected.

He was in and out – and then back in and out again – within a five-minute thieving period, and buried his treasures nearby.

‘We had to lock the door to keep him from coming back in,’ she told Fox Carolina.

Cato’s owner Holly Darden said police admitted it was their best arrest ever, while also denying that the dog is not fed.

‘Look at him, he’s fat. Yes! I feed him. There’s food in there. There’s treats in there,’ she said.

Police filed a mock report and the dog is now back at home. The store did not want to press charges

Newlyweds marooned on remote island after bull seal hijacks their dinghy

A newlywed couple were left stranded on a remote island for four days when a stubborn bull seal commandeered their dinghy.

Eddie Stebbings, 35, and his bride Bee Bueche, 36, were marooned on Skomer Island off the Pembrokeshire coast when the mammal refused to budge.

The couple were married in August and returned to the windswept island where they are wildlife wardens just in time for the seal pupping season.

‘One morning in October the seal flopped itself into the boat,’ explained Me Stebbings.

‘It refused to budge for four days and was at one point joined by another seal.

‘He was about four times my weight, eight foot long and clearly not worried about people coming close to him.’

The couple chose to spend their honeymoon on one of Britain’s most remote islands, which they shared with over 400 adult seals.

They also saved 108 baby seals after a cow seal gave birth on the pebble beach and in the island’s caves.

A spokeswoman for the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales said: ‘The island is in good hands with Eddie and Bee – they are dedicated to its wildlife and have fallen in love with its seals.’

GOP Seeks To End Emergency Unemployment Benefits

House Republican leaders are angling to end emergency unemployment benefits when they expire on Dec. 28 for some 1.3 million Americans, sparking a confrontation with White House and Democrats who are pushing hard to extend them.

Reflecting the sentiments of his members, Speaker John Boehner suggested Friday that the "positive" November jobs report is a sign that the emergency benefits should lapse. (The economy added 203,000 jobs and the unemployment rate fell to a five-year low of 7 percent.)

"Today's report includes positive signs that should discourage calls for more emergency government 'stimulus,'" the Ohio Republican said in a statement. "Instead, what our economy needs is more pro-growth solutions that get government out of the way."

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) on Thursday stressed that the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program was approved in 2008 "as emergency spending, as emergency need" when the economy was in free fall. He said the solution was to get more unemployed Americans back to work.
