Trumpism goes local: Montana Republicans are helping this white nationalist get into office

A Liberty University-educated white supremacist is running for a seat in the Montana statehouse — and his campaign has attracted support from some prominent Republicans in the state.

Taylor Rose, the former vice-president of the white nationalist Youth for Western Civilization (YWC) campus group, spent significant time as a college student in Europe — where he made contacts with far-right and anti-Muslim groups — before returning to the U.S. and working as a staff reporter for the right-wing World Net Daily.

The 29-year-old Rose became enamored by European right-wing nationalism during the 2008 presidential campaign, saying he was attracted to its focus on cultural and identity issues instead of economics and politics.

“Christianity will become the unifying religious force for the Right-Wing movements in Europe and the USA, for the only way to have a true revival of Occidental power both inwardly and outwardly is for the Occident to return to its historical foundations rooted in Christianity,” Rose said, referring to the West in opposition to the Oriental east. “Humanism is a failure and the only hope for a restoration of strength and liberty is a conviction in the inspiration of Christianity’s absolutes.”

Pat McCrory: Congress should ‘revisit the 1964 Civil Rights Act’ to allow segregated bath

(Gov poopy head makes profound statement.)

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) asserted on Wednesday that the U.S. Congress should review the entire 1964 Civil Rights Act because he did not like the way the Department of Justice was using it to protect transgender bathroom rights.

Speaking to CNN host Jake Tapper on Wednesday, McCrory accused Democrats of starting a fight over transgender bathroom rights by passing an ordinance in the City of Charlotte that allowed transgender people to visit public restrooms that correspond to their gender identity.

“I think that this was an argument that we didn’t need to have,” McCrory opined. “But this is an agenda by the far left. And for some reason, the national media is saying the far right brought this up. I had no interest in this subject.”

“But the Justice Department is basically making a civil rights claim that every private sector employer in the U.S. and every university in the United States must have gender expression or gender identity bathroom choices for individuals,” the governor complained.

Watch the first test of ‘Hyperloop’ that could ferry passengers between L.A. and San Francisco

A car-sized sled powered by electromagnets rocketed to more than 100 miles (160 kph) an hour through the Nevada desert on Wednesday in what the Los Angeles company developing the technology said was the first successful test of a futurist transit system called hyperloop.

Hyperloop One is among several companies competing to bring to life a technical vision by Elon Musk, the founder of rocket maker SpaceX and electric car company Tesla Motors, who suggested sending pods holding passengers and cargo inside giant vacuum tubes between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

It’s a matter of debate how soon – or whether – passengers and cargo will ride the system at velocities approaching 750 miles per hour (1,200 kph), but Hyperloop One already has raised $80 million from backers including clean technology

Can You Own Part of an Asteroid? How Asteroid Mining Is Changing Space Law

Coal miners mine coal; diamond miners mine diamonds; gold miners mine gold; space miners (will) mine space—and anything in it that has precious metals or compounds that can be whisked into rocket fuel. But, just like the first three kinds of “resource extraction,” the celestial kind will face more than a few philosophical, financial, and regulatory complications.

On November 24, President Obama signed the “US Commercial Space Law Competitiveness Act” into law. Among other things (like that the government should not pester SpaceX), it states that any US citizen who takes a chip off an old block of asteroid then owns that chip.

The law also applies to other celestial bodies blessed with “resources,” like the Moon and every other planet and lower-case moon because “resources” is a vague word. The US citizen—or, more likely, a group of citizens who are part of a company, like Planetary Resources, Inc., or Deep Space Industries—can then “possess, own, transport, use, [or] sell” the resource.

The leaders of the two asteroid-mining frontrunners, who hope to extract things like precious metals and water from space rocks, spoke excitedly of the development.

Real Superheroes are Coming: Part 1 – Predicting the Powers

Technology is advancing… fast!

And it’s advancing exponentially, meaning that the advances predicted over the next 30 years, will make our complete history to date seem like the work of primitive children. With predicted tech advances in mind, I see a future where ‘human’ becomes a word used to describe the unempowered. Transhuman will be the new normal – superhumans will no longer live only in fiction.

In the emerging years of humanities transcendence into something more, only a small number of people will be ‘upgraded’. It is reasonable to make the assumption then, that some people will use their privileged power to help others, in such a heroic way, that headlines will read – “Our First Real-Life Superhero”.

The US Army Research Laboratory released a report last year titled, “Visualizing the Tactical Ground Battlefield in the Year 2050: Workshop Report“. In the report, they describe a world where robots and humans will fight side by side on the battlefield, with these humans being ‘advanced’ in a number of ways. They explain that “the presence of super humans on the battlefield in the 2050 time-frame is highly likely because the various components needed to enable this development already exist and are undergoing rapid evolution”.

The key to taking the question seriously: Exponential thinking

Real superheroes can exist within 30 years! That’s one hell of a statement.

To seriously consider the possibility, you need to understand the impacts of the ongoing exponential growth of our technologies – the reason why humanity has advanced far more over the past 100 years than it has ever in the whole of history. 1,000 years ago, we went our whole lives seeing barely any improvement to our way of living. We are now on the ‘knee of the curve’, and exponential growth is about to sky-rocket our technological advances. You can see an example of exponential growth in the chart below, which maps out the predicted advance of our computing power over the next 30 years.

Machines Won’t Replace Us, They’ll Force Us to Evolve

Something big is happening in design and engineering.

For all of human history, we have created tools that help us do what we want to do — faster, better, cheaper. But we have always had to direct those tools; tell them exactly what to do for us to achieve our goals. This hasn’t changed from the time of stone tools (which we had to wield with our hands) to modern digital design tools (which we wield with the click of the mouse).

If an architect designing a house wants to move a wall, she has to first imagine all the possible alternatives of that wall’s placement that will serve her design. Once she has parsed through the possibilities in her mind, she will make a decision and manually move that wall in her CAD drawing. Naturally, she can only imagine a certain number of possibilities, and many alternatives might be completely lost because she didn’t imagine them.

This is how we’ve been designing things for most of history: first, you have an idea in your mind, then you draw it. But in recent years a new era of design has been creeping into the picture: generative design.
