My friend Sterling can be quite caustic in his satire. I thought his latest comment was one of his better observations.
The latest episode of the Trumpian Apocalypse is not actually a shutdown... a more accurate term would be "shakedown", as the seven-year old "stable genius" (sic), Emperor Donald the Deranged, is, as is normal for him, extorting the people of the United States with his irrational knowledge-free "decisions" from the psychiatric ward that is his mind....
"shakedown" is pretty good, don't ya think?
GOP senators introduce bill to permanently end government shutdowns
Whoa! GOP Senators must be getting more than a little nervous now. Will be interesting to see if McConnell allows it to go forward.

OMG! This is getting scarey
Trump wants to reclassify radioactive waste as "non-harmful" to cut the costs of its safe disposal. Now ain't that grand? Surely there will be a law suit?

Why did 8 Republican senators go to Moscow last July 4?
Clearly Republicans go where the money is, which I guess is mob-ruled Russia. What I want to know is: who came up with the brilliant idea and set this trip up?

Muieller might share his report with the Senate and House committees
I've read a lot about Mueller being a strictly by-the-book guy. But I think it's possible that he may even be an even greater patriot and send copies iof his report House intelligence and Senate judicial committees. Maybe the house Finance committee too. I feel fairly confident that in one way or another, we the public will get to read it.
Vanity Wall
President Vanity Wall -- I love it! "Vanity Wall" is such a great meme. Will go down in history as "the vanity wall screw up." And from now on, any boondoggle project of any politician will be called Gov/Senator/Congressman/Mayor's XXX's vanity wall. Vanity wall will be as well known as the bridge to nowhere.
When will the Iranians buy the GOP?
Hey, it worked for the Russians. The whole world now knows that the GOP is for sale.
Can you feel it now? Trump's crimes are coming to light
Like some stupid ghost in a 1950s horror movie. I imagine wind blowing the curtains in the WH. Electricity snapping in the air in the rose garden. Toilets backing up. Exploding sofas. eerie music. And there is no where for Trump to hide. His lies will get more ridiculous and contradictory. More staff will leave. If you see Javanka go to Russia for a "vacation," can Trump's final denouement be far behind?
Justice is a virtue.
Want to see the email that I got back from Sen John Cornyn?
John Cornyn, Sr. Texas senator, part of Sen Republican leadership. His email is his response to my email about voting to open the gov and NOT build a TexMex border wall. All those Republican Texas border ranchers are none-too-pleased about losing property to imminent domain.
Cornyn never met an oil lobbyist, whom he didn't like. Corporate GOP all the way. He doesn't really say anything in his email, but my goodness! He sure does know how to speak boardroom serious-sounding platitudes.
================
Dear Ms Lyons:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the current operations of the federal government. I understand the importance of funding programs that support our national defense and protect our borders, and I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this important matter.
A partial federal government shutdown creates further uncertainty and instability in the economy. I am eager to end the partial shutdown and move ahead with the fiscal and economic reforms our country so urgently needs. In 2018, Congress enacted five appropriations bills that provide funding for 75 percent of the federal government agencies in Fiscal Year 2019, including the Departments of Defense, Energy, Labor, Health and Human Services, among others. However, on December 22, 2018, funding for certain federal agencies lapsed due to disagreements over funding levels for important border security priorities, resulting in a partial federal government shutdown.
I share the frustrations of many Texans, and I will continue to work with my colleagues on a path forward to end this partial shutdown. It is my hope that an agreement can be reached quickly to reopen the all federal agencies, while strengthening security at our nations borders.
I am honored to represent Texas in the United States Senate, and I will keep your views in mind as the appropriations process moves forward. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.
Sincerely,
JOHN CORNYN
United States Senator
How Trump could get out of his predicament with grace
Now I doubt that this will happen, but there is a graceful way out of his self-inflicted gov shutdown. It is to simply agree to what Pelosi and Schumer have offered and tell McConnell to bring the bill for a vote. He doesn't have to explain anything. Or he could claim that Americans need their paychecks. That would be the graceful way out of it. To simply admit that his wall has been defeated, like a poker player folding a losing hand.
Alas, Trump is not gracious.
