San Antonio John Jay HS assistant coach resigns amid UIL ban after football players assault referee

ROUND ROCK — Mack Breed will not be allowed to coach at any University Interscholastic League school until he meets with the organization’s State Executive Committee, the committee ruled Thursday.

Breed, who issued his resignation as a Jay assistant football coach on Wednesday night, according to the Northside Independent School District, allegedly told two Jay players to attack umpire Robert Watts during a game Sept. 4 between Jay and Marble Falls.

Breed’s attorney, James Reeves, said Breed told the committee he made “regrettable comments” but did not want Watts attacked. The committee ruled unanimously to keep Breed from coaching at a UIL-member school Thursday during a formal hearing on the incident at the Austin Marriott North.

“Mack never intended for the kids to hit or hurt the referee, but the result was the same,” Reeves said. “While Mack is moving forward, others have to accept responsibility for their roles.”

Police: Man fired BB gun during New Braunfels High band practice

A 67-year-old man has been accused of shooting two high school students from New Braunfels with a BB gun.

William Henry Kloss was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of aggravated assault after two students, ages 16 and 17, suffered minor injuries after being struck by pellets, police said.

The students are members of the New Braunfels High School band and were practicing Tuesday afternoon at the school when they were struck by what appeared to be pellets from BB or pellet gun, police said.

Police say the pellets were fired from a home near the school on Ohio Avenue.

Rick Perry will support Donald Trump if he’s the Republican nominee

Live, from Austin, Texas, Rick Perry was on MSNBC’s Morning Joe today.

Looking good.

Rested and ready but, yes, out of the race, and opening up with a salute to the quality of the sunsets in Round Top, the idyllic community to which he has repaired after leaving the race for president a little more than a dozen days ago.

It’s a pretty sunset on the house over in Round Top so my wife and I are enjoying that.

He was the first candidate to bow out of the crowded Republican field.

Texas Diners Call Their Waiter “F*ggot,” Restaurant Apologizes… to the Diners

HOUSTON -- Let’s take a quick multiple-choice test. Just for fun. I will present a scenario, and you select the most logical reaction to that scenario. Sound good? Let’s do it.

You are the manager of a restaurant. One of your employees is a gay male. Two diners, after eating in the restaurant, leave a disparaging comment about your gay employee, even though he wasn’t even the one to serve them.

The comment, scrawled on the top of the receipt, reads: “Don’t want to listen to a f*ggot through my whole meal.”

Do you:

A. Apologize to your employee for being unfairly targeted for hatred.

Or do you:

B. Apologize to the diners who called your employee a slur.

12 East Texans arrested in Medicare fraud scheme

Twelve people have been arrested in connection with an East Texas Medicare fraud scheme, U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced Wednesday.

On Sept. 16, a federal grand jury returned an 18-count indictment charging 12 suspects in connection with Three Angels Home Health, which authorities said was a scheme to defraud Medicare by recruiting recipients who were not eligible for or who did did not need home health care services.

According to the indictment, an investigation revealed between August 2013 and November 2014, the suspects tried to defraud Medicare of about $2.5 million for home health services to about 250 East Texas Medicare patients.

The patients were from Tyler, Jacksonville, Marshall, Nacogdoches, Lufkin and other parts of East Texas.

Henderson man who was second-oldest WWII vet dies at 109

An East Texas man who devoted his life to teaching and sharing tales from the classroom and the battlefield will be buried today at age 109.

Elmer Everett "E.E." Hill was the second-oldest World War II veteran when he was honored by more than 100 friends during a 2014 ceremony in his hometown of Henderson.

"Elmer Hill was an inspiration to me and so many others," U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Longview, wrote of the late educator Wednesday. "East Texas would be a darker place today without him if he had not illuminated so many lights that would follow behind him."

Graduating from Henderson Colored High School in 1927, Hill bookended wartime service in the U.S. Navy with stints as principal of his alma mater. Henderson ISD trustees renamed the campus E.E. Hill High School in 1965.

Killeen ISD responds to bullying case at school (13-yr-old boy threatens to rape 11-yr-old girl)

KILLEEN -- A Fort Hood mother is demanding answers, accountability and an apology from school officials after she said her 11-year-old daughter received a threat of sexual assault from an older student.

“I’m having a sit-down with the school (today),” said Jessica Lux, who recently moved with her family to Fort Hood. Her daughter attends Smith Middle School.

Killeen Independent School District officials confirmed they are aware of and are responding to the bullying incident Friday at the school at Fort Hood.

Lux said her daughter was on her way to the bathroom Friday when a 13-year-old boy told her: “Hey, blueberry, I’m going to rape you.”
