The Japanese cat collecting game Neko Atsume is finally in English

Source: Boing Boing

Cat collectors rejoice: the cult favorite mobile game Neko Atsume has finally made its way to Android—and soon, to iOS—in English under the name Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector.

Originally created by the Japanese company Hit Point, the game had been available solely in Japanese since its launch, but the idea of collecting a coterie of cats in a digital backyard proved so adorable that it acquired a community of international fans anyway. Devoted players quickly created guides to help non-Japanese speakers navigate the menus, acquire fish and attract a wide range of kitties to romp around inside their phones.

"When we made the game we weren’t thinking about foreign users — we were only thinking about the Japanese audience," Neko Atsume project manager Yutaka Takazaki told the Verge. "It’s very helpful that the community is helping each other out." The English version also localizes the names of the cats to more typical English pet names, like Snowball, Smokey, and Shadow. If you've been holding out because the Japanese version seemed too complicated, now you have no excuse.

Island Cat Bonded with Kind Woman Who is Determined to Save Him

Source: LoveMeow

A kind young woman found a ginger street cat when she was visiting Cyprus. The kitty was skin and bones, wanting to be fed and loved. She started caring for him and soon she knew there was no way she could leave him behind…

Charlotte Futcher shares the story with Love Meow: “George was a skinny, frightened street cat from Cyprus. He lived alone and afraid amongst the rubbish. When I saw him, I loved him instantly.

I spent my holiday feeding and cuddling this beautiful cat, who repaid me with unconditional affection and an unbreakable bond.”

---
One of the locals told Charlotte that George is a survivor from a car accident, but the little guy has a strong will to live and a big heart filled with love.

George wouldn’t go anywhere when she was around. He stayed by her side and kneaded on her towels while purring away. Soon the two became inseparable. Charlotte made up her mind that she would take him with her so he could have a loving home that he always deserved.

Source: Newschannel 4 KFOR.com

An Oklahoma woman from Woodward just posted the rescue video to YouTube.

Watch her interview with KFOR below

Watch as a maroon vehicle crosses the road – suddenly, a kitten drops from the undercarriage onto the street.

It takes the female biker a few seconds to notice the kitten, which was nearly crushed when a truck seemingly drove right over the top of the little guy.

When she sees him, the woman’s helmet cam was rolling as she decides to jump into action.

She jumps off of her motorcycle and rescues the kitten, right after a second truck’s tires barely miss the orange furball.

Five tiny orphan kittens found themselves trapped in an exhaust duct at a restaurant. They were desperately crying for help…

“Owners of a restaurant told us that they heard kittens in an exhaust pipe who had been crying since the last 2 days. Their mom hadn’t come back for them. 2 kittens were hypothermic and in critical condition,” Animal Aid Unlimited shares the story.

National Feral Cat Day: Learn the Ins And Outs Of Trap-Neuter-Return To Help The Cause

Source: Headlines & Global News

It's National Feral Cat Day, how are you participating? Grab a bag of cat food and feed a group of strays in your area. Look for ear tipping - if they aren't tipped, chances are they need to be trapped and fixed as well.

Their original mission was to promote feral cats, often referred to as community cats, to raise awareness of the highly successful Trap-Neuter-Return program (TNR) and to support the people across the country who care for the millions of feral cats across the U.S.

Statistics are ugly for the feral cat. Cats in general don't get a chance at shelters, with a 70 percent average of them being euthanized, and that includes the friendly ones. Feral cats have a 100 percent death rate at animal shelters, which is why Alley Cat Allies came up with the TNR program.

"During TNR, cats are humanely trapped ad brought to a veterinarian to be evaluated, spayed or neutered, and then vaccinated. While under anesthesia, the cats are eartipped - a small portion of the left ear is painlessly removed for identification. After they recover from the sterilization surgery, they are returned to their outdoor home," says Alley Cat Allies, according to The Cat Channel.

"Trap-Neuter-Return is the only effective method of stabilizing cat colony populations. In the last decade, the number of local governments with official policies endorsing TNR has increased tenfold, with hundreds of cities and towns successfully carrying out TNR programs," Alley Cat Allies added.

Your cat can pick up on how you are feeling

Source: BBC Earth

Our feline friends aren't quite as emotionally distant as we might think. They seem to be able to sense our moods

If you have spent much time on the internet, you'll know at least one thing: our species loves cats.

How they feel about us is much less clear. Compared to our devoted dogs, cats seem pretty unconcerned with human affairs.

But it looks like our feline companions pay more attention than we give them credit for. They seem to be able to tell when we are happy.

New research has found the first strong evidence that cats are sensitive to human emotional gestures.

Moriah Galvan and Jennifer Vonk of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, US studied 12 cats and their owners. They found that the animals behaved differently when their owner was smiling compared to when they were frowning.

Kitten Cuddling Human Mom and Baby Inside Her Belly Since Adopted

Source: Lovemeow, 8 October 2015

Siggy the kitty has been cuddling her human mom and the baby inside her belly since he was adopted. “My cat loves my bump. They’ve grown up together.”

“Siggy is 5 and a half months old, my best friend’s cat had kittens and I helped her when she was in labour so I’ve literally known him from the day he was born!” Reddit user Bogsasaurus told Love Meow. “I was about 3 months pregnant when he was born. My partner and I took him home in April.”

Siggy started hugging his mom’s belly when the baby started kicking. “That was around May. He’s a really chilled cat.”

“He’s really clingy with me, especially when I’m ill. I spent 5 days in the hospital with a suspected blood clot on my lung and before I was taken in he spent two whole days by my side, wouldn’t leave me,” she said.

When the baby is moving inside the belly, Siggy loves it. “He enjoys it! He kneads my belly until baby wakes up, then lays down and purrs himself to sleep while baby kicks him!”

Whiskas Takes You to Kitten Kollege in This Adorable Online Campaign

Source: Adweek

London agency AMV BBDO has partnered with Google, Mediacom and College Humor on "Kitten Kollege," a digital campaign for Whiskas U.K. that references college promotional videos and, to a degree, the tone of Friskies' famous "Dear Kitten" spots.

The first two videos are somewhat rudderless introductions to the Kitten Kollege concept, which is like Hamburger University for cats, but the later efforts have some more oomph to them. The neutering and litter training videos, shot as lectures delivered to classrooms full of cats, drop some legit knowledge on the viewer, and they both have a loose, Open University vibe that helps their presentation a lot.

It sounds like the collaboration wasn't without its challenges. Good for them, then, that they still managed to have some fun with it. The YouTube counts have a long way to go to rival the "Dear Kitten" stuff, though.

Also, let the record show that "differently engaged" is the best euphemism for laziness that I've ever heard. Lots more videos below.

(Quiz): Do You Own A Cat Or Does Your Cat Own You?

Source: Buzzfeed

Have you accepted your place in the universe as a lowly, can-opening human?

You need to brush your teeth and you see this. What do you do?

Aw. Shoo her away and brush your teeth.

Don’t bother her. Coo, take a photo and never brush your teeth again.

You get out of bed and find one of these. What do you do?

Sigh and chuck it into the garbage. At least you didn’t step on it this time.

Shower your cat with praise. You victorious little hunter, you!

How often do you wash your cat?

Not too regularly, just when he’s extra stinky.

What?! Never! My cat hates water and I could never bear to torture him!
