In the spirit of the GOP Convention/Circus, I'd Like To Do The Honors:

Obama Achievements (with citations):
1. Within his first week, he signed an Executive Order ordering an audit of government contracts, and combating waste and abuse. http://1.usa.gov/dUvbu5

2. Created the post of Chief Performance Officer, whose job it is to make operations more efficient to save the federal government money. http://n.pr/hcgBn1

3. On his first full day, he froze White House salaries. http://on.msnbc.com/ewJUIx

4. He appointed the first Federal Chief Information Officer to oversee federal IT spending. http://www.cio.gov

5. He committed to phasing out unnecessary and outdated weapons systems. To that end, he also signed the Democratic-sponsored Weapons Systems Acquisition Reform Act, which attempted to put a stop to waste, fraud and abuse in the defense procurement and contracting system. http://bit.ly/hOw1t1 http://bit.ly/fz8GAd

6. Through an executive order, he created the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. http://bit.ly/hwKhKa

I guess this explains why I never get to see either of them on MSNBC's primetime shows or hardly anywhere else.

At least Obama went on Billo the Clown's show once:

How can Willard be running for president, yet he always ducks a challenge? That's not a very good showing...

Who else here thinks the GOP should change their platform from "pro-life" to "pro-fetus"?

GOPhers like to call themselves pro-life. But if they are truly pro-life, then why do most of them favor the death penalty? And for a party that supposedly values the sanctity of life, some of them actually vote against an anti-rape amendment:

IMO, all they are is pro-fetus, since they care more about fetuses than they do about whether or not a woman has the means to take care of a child once it is born.

Obama's European Socialist Empire

It has been a long time since Europe has featured so prominently in an American presidential race. Republicans, in particular, have seen the crisis plaguing the Eurozone as an opportunity to attack president Obama, who—they claim—is leading America away from its core values and towards the sickly collectivism prevalent in the European Union. Mitt Romney, in one of those hilarious-but-horrifying Republican debates last September, spoke of a president “taking his inspiration […] from the socialist democrats in Europe," before pointing out that he, in contrast, believed in America. His vice-presidential pick, Paul Ryan, was complaining to the New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza about the lurch towards a European style of government in March 2009, before the crisis in Greece had begun, and has continued invoking the frightening specter of the Europeanization of American as the Eurozone’s woes have deepened.

Is there any hope in the future for election reform in the U.S.?

I think this country is way overdue for election reform. It's obvious that with the system we have now, voting for 3rd party candidates is pointless and essentially equates to a vote for the major political party you'd least like to see in office. As a result, some voters become disillusioned when they don't get everything they want from one candidate in an attempt to vote against another candidate.

How long does everyone here think it will take before we ditch the winner-take-all system, and possibly get something like a parliamentary system or instant run-off voting?
