Why does Sean Hannity always refer to Pres. Obama as "the anointed one"?

Where did this idea come from that he's some type of king or dictator? First I heard Rand Paul talk about him trying to be a "monarch", and now I just heard Hannity with that "anointed one" crap on a clip shown on Bashir's show.

Why is the concept of race and ethnicity so messed up in America?

This really has been bugging me lately. I'm annoyed at how so many Americans seem to have trouble differentiating between race and ethnicity. Ethnicity is defined as the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition, while race is a biological and anthropological phenomenon. Occasionally I hear people saying something such as "that lady looks Jewish" or "he looks like he might be Italian or Canadian". How can a person look like they follow a certain religion or be from a certain country? And many months ago on DU when I first joined, I posted a question about whether Hispanic/Latino is a race, and everybody told me "no", and that a person from any race can be Hispanic or Latino. This honestly came as a huge shock to me, since my family and most people I know think that it is a race, and how the media seems to treat it as such (like when they discuss demographic trends).

Do you agree with Coach Belichick that the NFL should get rid of extra points?

More: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/23/bill-belichick-doesnt-see-the-point-in-extra-points/

Patriots coach Bill Belichick recently caused a stir when he said the NFL wants to eliminate kickoffs. Now Belichick has weighed in on a play that he says would be better suited to elimination: The extra point.

In an interview on WEEI, Belichick pointed out that the point after touchdown is so easy that it rarely creates any interest at all, and he said that if the league isnít going to make it harder, then the league should just get rid of it.

The "Last Letter" Thread

The rules are simple: say a word that starts with the last letter of the comment before yours.
Example: One person says "blue", so the following comment should be a word starting with "e" such as "egg" or "exclusive". I'll start it off:

Bay Area DUers, what do you think of the plastic bag law?

The Rubber-banding A.I. in Mario Kart is a Cheating Bastard

This game has driven me to a depth of frustration I've never experienced with any game. It sucks without bounds.

Note to Nintendo: Please stop putting cheap A.I. in Mario Kart games. It's not fun, nor is it challenging. It's just fake difficulty and annoying. Period. I'm tired of having massive leads in 150cc only to see computer-controlled characters speeding up and catching me in no time. Every time I hit them with one of my items, they catch up within a few seconds, but when I get hit, it's tough to get back in 1st place.

Have anyone else ever wondered how some people get a bunch of views in one day on YouTube?

I certainly have been. For example, I was on one of Chuggaaconroy's videos (he's a video game LPer BTW), and I noticed that on one video he uploaded today, it already had over 10K views. Also whenever I browse videos, I always see videos that manage to get over a million views in just 2-3 days. It has been baffling me how some YouTubers can get views so easily, while others (such as myself) are lucky to even get 1 view per day. I wonder what their secret is. Do they perhaps use video-sharing programs that let you buy views and subscribers?

Why do right-wingers outnumber left-wingers on most Internet forums?

It seems like every messaging board I visit outside of DU and MediaMatters, conservatives tend to outnumber liberals. It has been the case from my experience so far whether it's reading comments from sports forums, Urban Dictionary, YouTube, or Yahoo. Whenever I hear somebody on these types of sites talk about something politics-related, it's usually some RW talking points or something that is anti-Obama.
