"Richard Sherman: Make billionaires pay for their own stadiums"

A major part of the NFLís business model is getting taxpayers to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on new stadiums. One of the NFLís best players thinks itís time for that practice to stop.

Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman said on 710 ESPN in Seattle that if he had his way, the billionaires who own NFL teams would foot the bill for the stadiums.

ďIíd stop spending billions of taxpayer dollars on stadiums . . . maybe make the billionaires who actually benefit from the stadiums pay for them. That kind of seems like a system that would work for me,Ē Sherman said, via MyNorthwest.com.

Itís an argument that citizens and public officials in many NFL cities agree with, and yet the NFL has managed to find many municipalities willing to finance its stadiums. And more cities, most recently Las Vegas, are saying theyíre open to giving taxpayer funds to the NFL. As long as those cities keep offering their money, the NFL will keep accepting.
