Family Of Brain Dead Pregnant Woman Is Suing Texas Hospital, Politicians Weigh In

The family of a brain dead woman who remains on life support against their wishes is suing the Fort Worth hospital that contends they are simply following state law by keeping her alive because she is pregnant. According to NBCDFW, "Experts familiar with the Texas law say the hospital is incorrectly applying the statute because Munoz would be considered legally and medically dead."

The tragic story which broke nationally over the Christmas holiday, has now sparked a conversation among state leaders in Texas.

Travis County Allows Gun Show Contract To Expire After Company Refuses To Pilot Background Checks

After weeks of negotiations a contract between Saxet Gun Shows and Travis County will expire without being renewed due to the companies refusal to consider background checks on person to person individual gun purchases.
National Instant Criminal Background Checks are provided free by the FBI and take just moments to perform but the owner of Saxet says, "it is it is not really my job to infringe on anyone's rights." According to the Statesman, "The background checks would have affected a small subset of gun show sales, estimated to be about 10 percent. Federally-licensed firearms sellers are already required to run a criminal background check..."

Rick Perry Violates Legislative Intent With Overreach And Overregulation of Texas' ACA Navigators

On Monday the Texas Department of Insurance held a final hearing on proposed rules placed on Affordable Care Act navigators that Democratic legislators contend is politically motivated to ensure the law's failure. Just days before the initial launch of Healthcare.gov Governor Perry instructed TDI to implement strict regulations on navigators who are tasked with helping individuals sign up for health insurance. The timing of the Governor's decision and the fact that he has bet his future's political capital on opposing the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion point to political calculations within the agency whose Commissioner he appointed.

Rep. Lon Burnam (D-Fort Worth) who has filed extensive open records request said he also received internal documents from TDI indicating that the additional training and fees were primarily due to political influence.

FBI Hate Crimes stats debunk a key "Knockout Game" myth...

The "Knockout Game" has been a bit of urban legend in the rightwing blogosphere where complaints of reverse racism are cultivated by peddling instances of black on white assaults. A recent victim, a teacher in Pittsburgh who's incident became a source of "proof" of a "trend" says he feels like his case is being exploited. He told Huff Post Live, "People need a label. If they're selling toothpaste or CDs, or news stories, they need a label ... To me it's an assault, plain and simple."
