JoethePleb's JournalTexas Republicans Who "Stand With Phil Robertson" The Duck Dynasty Patriarch
The Duck Dynasty controversy, has been a head-to-head clash of pop-culture and politics, and has finally made its way to Texas. Most top office holders in the state like Governor Rick Perry and Atty. Gen. Greg Abbott have avoided the making any comment, but the same can't be said of those trying to break through the crowded field of conservatives to statewide office.

Stockman Offers "Obama Barf Bag" for $10 donation
Finally a GOP member of Congress proposes an alternative to Obamacare, and you won't even need a doctor. Congressional crankster Steve Stockman launched a new campaign gimmick where he will send you an "Official Obama Barf Bag" for every $10 dollars you donate to his campaign, because as he says, "Obama's socialism makes me sick." But, is this how the Tea Party wants to be portrayed and represented?

Greg Abbott's New Ad Touting Charter Schools Avoids Traditional Public Schools
Unless Greg Abbott plans to turn the entire Texas Public Education system into charter schools and magnet academies, his latest campaign video still sheds little light on his position regarding education funding or traditional public schools. Abbott has received a lot of heat lately from both the media and his political opponents for being mum on major campaign issues and for his defense of the 2011 education budget cuts.

States' Exchange Success Will Hurt Texas Republicans' Fight Against Obamacare
States who chose to create their own health insurance exchange are faring much better at getting their residents coverage than those using the federal exchange at Healthcare.gov.
So far Republican Governors and legislatures have chosen to spend their time, effort and states' tax dollars fighting the expansion of the affordable health insurance marketplace in lieu of developing alternatives or exercising discretion within their respective state exchanges.

Even Greg Abbott's Advisors Lack Answers For Texas' Uninsured Points them To Federal Programs
Earlier this week Greg Abbott hosted a forum with Merrill Matthews on his website in which the controversial policy advisor answered questions regarding the state of Texas and the Affordable Care Act. Some of the questions, including those from Conservative Tea Party types were tough, because well Republicans haven't really been forced to answer them in the past. Surprising (or not) when it came down to it, the free-market evangelist referred many seeking help to federal programs.

The skinny on the filing extention in CD-36 & GOP's bid to replace Steve Stockman
Grab your popcorn folks because the next 3 months are going to be fun to watch.
Pursuant to Section 172.054 of the Texas Election Code the Republican Party of Texas is being forced to reopen the filing for the 36th Congressional District in Southeast Texas. The rule extends the filing deadline until Monday, December 16th, at 6 p.m but only for the party whose candidate withdrew.
That may seem unfair, but with 6 Republicans already in the race, you probably won't hear the lone Democrat Michael Cole complaining. On the flip-side for Democrats, the law also prevents someone who has filed for another office from making a switch. That would include Republican Incumbent State Representative James White who was rumored to being eyeing the switch.
With a wide open field it will be interesting to see how this race shapes up. So far no one has emerged as the immediate front-runner but there appears to be at least 2 proxy candidates, each backed by a different member of Congress. But, a better question may be why did Stockman switch in the first place?

Wendy Davis vs Goliath: Texas GOP Openly Fears Democrats' Shot At Turning Texas Blue
The state's top GOP hopefuls recently met to discuss the changing political landscape in Texas and how they might keep their iron grip on the state's highest offices. At the heart of their concern is that Texas' traditional non-voting populations are starting to wake up thanks to a resurgent state Democratic Party led by their flagship gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis and the on the ground organizers of Battleground Texas.
Dallas County is ground zero for what the GOP in Texas fears. The state's 2nd most populated county was solid red prior to 2004, and by 2010 Democrats won their first post-Reagan majority on the County Commissioners' Court and they still maintain every county-wide seat on the ballot...

Greg Abbott Wins YCT Straw Poll, Still Silent On DREAM Act
The Young Conservatives of Texas, the controversial group whose UT Chapter was responsible for both the "Affirmative Action Bake Sale" and the "Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game" have released the results of their straw poll along with their endorsements of Texas statewide Republicans and it could get a little awkward.
Greg Abbott, YCT's top choice for governor was pressured into distancing himself from the group earlier this month, and now Texas Democratic Party leaders are calling for him to outright and preemptively reject their endorsement because of their anti-immigrant activities. State Representative Mary Gonzalez one of the Texas Legislature's youngest members said,

Greg Abbott Continues to Avoid Qualifying His Support For The DREAM Act
Texas Republicans have a lot to say about Immigration lately unless they happen to be running for governor and named Greg Abbott.
Yesterday hundreds of students as well as University officials expressed disgust at the "Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game" organized by a former staffer of Abbott's. While the Attorney General did distance his campaign from the "repugnant" event it stopped short of addressing the larger issue at hand, the DREAM Act.
