82nd's Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair removed from job in Afghanistan

Source: Fayetteville Observer

The Army is investigating Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair, who has been reassigned from Afghanistan back to Fort Bragg, officials said Friday.

Earlier this month, Sinclair was removed from his job as the 82nd Airborne Division's deputy commanding general for support in Afghanistan. He had been deputy commander since July 2010.

"This is a criminal investigation," said Ben Abel, a Fort Bragg spokesman.

Sinclair has returned to Fort Bragg for his assignment as special assistant to the commanding general of the 18th Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, Abel said.

The incident is the first in recent memory in which a Fort Bragg general was removed from a position and investigated.

Angry opponents of N.C. amendment call for moving Democratic convention from Charlotte

Source: Charlotte Observer

North Carolina voters have spoken. Now it’s other people’s turn. And, around the country, many of them are so mad at Tuesday’s results on Amendment One that they’re calling for the Democratic National Convention to be yanked out of Charlotte.

By 1:15 p.m., nearly 20,000 people had signed a “move the convention” petition that was launched on change.org by the New York-based Gay Marriage USA.

And Twitter is filled with similar sentiment from angry supporters of same-sex marriage.

“As an LGBT Democrat married in Iowa, I wouldn’t set foot in North Carolina,” tweeted David S. Shafer.

Marc St. Jacques tweeted: “Move the Convention out of North Carolina, don’t spend any monies in this retrograde state.”

No one expects the Democrats to move the September convention out of Charlotte – where the Amendment lost.

Democrats want NC ethics probes after resignations

RALEIGH -- North Carolina House Democrats have asked two ethics panels to examine whether laws were broken regarding relationships between legislative employees and lobbyists that have led two aides of Republican House Speaker Thom Tillis to resign.

House Minority Leader Joe Hackney and other Democratic caucus leaders wrote Thursday to the Legislative Ethics Committee and the State Ethics Commission asking for investigations. They say disclosures of inappropriate relationships between Tillis' staff and the lobbyists raise questions about conflicts of interest and undue influence on the legislative process.

Chief of staff Charles Thomas and policy adviser Amy Hobbs were forced out of their jobs in the past week by disclosures of the relationships with separate lobbyists.
