State-run channel CCTV reported that the tests are reserved for high-risk cases, although there does not appear to be a coordinated policy for them, with reports of surprise tests for some individuals.
This includes passengers arriving in Beijing, residents of quarantine centers and, according to local officials, a group of more than 1,000 schoolchildren and teachers believed to be exposed to the virus.

Li said studies show that the virus lasts longer in the anus or excrement than in the respiratory tract and that an anal test could be better at identifying the disease in mild or asymptomatic cases.

China has been willing to take extreme measures to stop the spread of Covid-19 in its borders, locking down entire cities or even provinces to contain outbreaks, quarantining new arrivals for lengthy periods of time and there are reports of forced testing. The approach appears to have been largely successful, however, and the worlds most populous country has managed to avoid the high caseloads and death tolls seen in other nations. Life in Wuhan, where the virus was first detected just over a year ago, is largely back to normal. Cases have started to rise again and authorities are mounting a desperate bid to contain outbreaks and vaccinate millions ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year, where millions are expected to travel across the country.

My favorite line from the article - "Not all experts agree with the use of anal swabs to test for a respiratory illness."

Samuel Camargo, 26, was taken into custody after law enforcement in Florida attempted to arrest him on Tuesday at his home in Broward County, Florida, but learned he was not there. Investigators found him the following day in Washington, D.C.

Federal authorities were alerted to the social media posts by a former classmate and social media friend, according to the complaint.
Camargo allegedly admitted he was at the Capitol during an interview with detectives. But "shortly after the interview began, Camargo became uncooperative, questioning your affiants loyalty to the constitution, and advised the interviewing agent he had no information to provide," the complaint said.
He also told detectives that he knew charges were pending against him but decided to attend the inauguration instead of turning himself in, it states.

For all the GOP/Trumpies looking for "unity" ...
... We'll do it like South Africa did it after shaking off Apartheid.
Reunification if: Congress will establish truth commissions where you confess to every sin and specifically detail why it was wrong, express a strong desire to be forgiven, and show how you will never do that again.
You will be harshly dealt with if anything pops up you forgot to mention.

At around 3 p.m. Thursday, Capitol Police asked the National Guard to relocate the soldiers who were using Capitol hallways and open space to rest during their shifts, National Guard Bureau spokesman Major Matt Murphy told CBS News.
"As Congress is in session and increased foot traffic and business is being conducted, Capitol Police asked the troops to move their rest area," Murphy said. "They were temporarily relocated to the Thurgood Marshall Judicial Center garage with heat and restroom facilities."

Some guardsmen expressed displeasure at having their rest area moved to a parking garage. While the garage has heat and lights, there are only a few restrooms and limited cell phone and internet service and power outlets.

Duckworth called it "unreal," adding she couldn't "believe that the same brave service members we've been asking to protect our Capitol and our Constitution these last two weeks would be unceremoniously ordered to vacate the building. I am demanding answers ASAP. They can use my office."

The U.S. Capitol Police confirmed today that it would investigate the matter and that the troops are back in the Capitol.

Rand Paul Says Joe Biden's Speech Was 'Innuendo Calling Us White Supremacists'

Republican Senator Rand Paul has said that President Joe Biden's call for an end to lies in public discourse was a veiled accusation of racism towards people like him who held different political views.
-snip-
But Paul took exception to Biden's speech, telling Fox News: "Much of it is thinly veiled innuendo calling us white supremacists, calling us racists, calling us every name in the book, calling us people who don't tell the truth."
-snip-
Mimicking the new president's words, the Kentucky lawmaker continued: " Biden said) 'going forward we are not going to have manufactured or manipulated truth'that's another way of saying, 'all of my opponents manufacture and manipulate the truth and are liars.
"He just said it in a nicer way but that really was the gist of what he was telling us," said Paul, who also reiterated in the interview his call for Biden to reject Trump's impeachment which he believed is "just going to divide the country further."
Uh, Sen Paul, that was not innuendo, he was being civil. We all knew it and your racist supporters know it and have no problem with it. The very best way to stop being identified as racist is to put your racism behind you.
Part of the problem for Rand is he doesn't think of it as racism, he just holds "different political views".
