Fatal Shooting of 2 Black Teenagers by Florida Deputy Is Under Investigation

Fatal Shooting of 2 Black Teenagers by Florida Deputy Is Under Investigation

Relatives are demanding answers about the shooting deaths of Angelo Crooms, 16, and Sincere Pierce, 18, by a sheriff’s deputy in Cocoa, Fla.

Dashcam video showed the deputies in each of their cruisers following a car as it turned onto a street and then into the driveway of a house in a residential neighborhood in Cocoa, which is about 45 miles east of Orlando. It was not clear how long the deputies had been following the car.

The police said that Mr. Crooms then drove at Deputy Santiago-Miranda, who fired his gun “in an attempt to stop the deadly threat of the car from crashing into him.” On the video, at least eight shots could be heard striking the car.

“Out of harm’s way, the deputy moved closer to get a better shot,” and fired with the “intent to kill,” and “then kept firing as the car passed by,” Mr. Crump wrote.

“Please, don’t shoot! Please, don’t shoot! My baby’s in that car!” she recalled screaming. Deputy Santiago-Miranda then fired, even though the car with the teenagers inside was turning away from him, she said.

The car was not stolen. It was owned by the driver's girlfriend. In the article the police spokesperson repeatedly said that officers' lives were threatened. I'll bet with anyone: these cops will be back on patrol in a couple of weeks after a paid vacation ... I mean suspension.

Isn't it odd?

The same people that refused to impeach Trump, saying leave it to voters are the same guys trying to ignore your vote!

Chris Hayes said it, heck if I can find the link.

Jonathan Pollard, Convicted Spy, Completes Parole and May Move to Israel

Jonathan Pollard, Convicted Spy, Completes Parole and May Move to Israel

The former Navy intelligence analyst served 30 years in prison for stealing American secrets during the Cold War. Some of them ultimately ended up with the Soviet government.

American national security officials had long objected to any easing of Mr. Pollard’s punishment, highlighting the damage Mr. Pollard did to American intelligence collection. But objections from intelligence officers have largely become muted, with some acknowledging that Mr. Pollard has both served his time and fulfilled his parole obligations.

Arrested in 1985, Mr. Pollard eventually pleaded guilty in a deal with prosecutors who agreed to seek a yearslong sentence. But the judge, relying on a once-classified damage assessment written by Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger, sentenced him to life in prison. Mr. Pollard ultimately served three decades behind bars, the longest stretch in prison for an American who illegally gave material to an allied government.

The damage that Mr. Pollard did in particular to the National Security Agency’s collection efforts was too great, intelligence officials said, to allow any early release, pardon or commutation. In 1999, as the Clinton administration was considering a pardon, intelligence officials revealed that some of the stolen material made its way to the Soviet Union, either stolen by Russian spies or handed over by Israeli intelligence officials seeking the release of Jewish families from Russia.

“If he’s served his time and finished parole, I would see no damage in letting him go to Israel,” said Greg Treverton, a former National Intelligence Council chairman. “Any secrets he knows are now out or old.”

“This election inspired me to break my silence and speak out on behalf of my family,” the account said in a post on Wednesday. “My brother Don won this election and will fight this to the very end. We’ve always been a family of fighters.”

Had the article’s author looked more closely, though, she would have noticed some suspicious details about the account. It was a day old. The photos it used of Ms. Trump Grau were taken from Getty Images and past news articles about her. And since that first post, the account had tweeted increasingly bizarre messages, sharply criticizing Democrats, journalists and Republicans who had questioned the false claim that Mr. Trump was re-elected.

“If someone pours gravy down Chris Wallace’s pants at Thanksgiving dinner, I promise, I will take care of the legal fees!” the account said, referring to the Fox News anchor. Another post said, “The perfect Trump drink on a rough day,” with a photo of a can of Natty Daddy, a cheap malt beer.

The bizarre episode illustrates how easily misinformation spreads online, often with the help of the president himself. Right-wing websites that seek to support the president’s baseless claims, or simply attract clicks so they can sell more ads, often eschew the traditional principles of journalism, such as simple fact-checking. And the social media companies aid the cycle by making it simple to share misinformation, including allowing the use of fake accounts, and by training their algorithms to promote material that attracts more attention, as sensational and divisive posts often do.

National Toilet Day ...

It's true, the United Nations has actually designated November 19th as World Toilet Day! If this had been a question on a True or False test, I am sure most of us would have responded "false."

Trivia Lesson for the Week (info copied from nationaltoday.com):

In 2013, a joint effort between the Government of Singapore and the World Toilet Organization led to Singapore’s first UN resolution called “Sanitation for All.” This resolution called for the collective action to end the world sanitation crises. As a result, World Toilet Day was declared an official UN day and the resolution was adopted by 122 countries at the 67th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. During World Toilet Day 2015, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon advocated action to renew efforts to provide access to satisfactory sanitation for all, reminding everyone of the “Call to Action on Sanitation” which was launched in 2013 and aimed to end open defecation by 2025.

I have 99 problems with Lindsey Graham and whether he's gay or not ain't one of them. Particularly because if he is - he hasn't come out, and because being gay doesn't make him or any crime he's involved with worse.

Please, we're DU and sexuality is just one thing they slur people over that we don't or shouldn't.

Shot my first turkey today, it was awesome ....

After Pouring Gasoline On U.S. Divide, Charles Koch Now Claims He Wants To Heal Nation

“Boy did we screw up,” says the billionaire who backed Donald Trump. “What a mess.”

In an email to the Journal, Koch also congratulated President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their victory. He said he looked forward to “finding ways to work with them to break down the barriers holding people back, whether in the economy, criminal justice, immigration, the COVID-19 pandemic, or anywhere else.”

He added: “I hope we all use this post-election period to find a better way forward. Because of partisanship, we’ve come to expect too much of politics and too little of ourselves and one another.”

The family money also bankrolls the American Legislative Exchange Council which pens template bills for conservative politicians to introduce in state legislatures across the nation. And Koch plotted back in February to overturn a Trump loss at the polls.

Despite his stated intention to make peace, he railed to the Journal about the constant push to rob individuals of freedom with “top-down” control that stifles innovation. Koch complained about powerful interests lobbying the government, even though Koch Industries spent some $100 million on lobbying, the Journal pointed out.

Twitter was not impressed.

Charles Koch and his brother tried to destroy the planet for profit and broke our country in the process. He can take his mea culpa and shove it. https://t.co/cxJo2NdWMe

Charles Koch’s Super PAC, Americans for Prosperity, spent the past 6+ months campaigning to get Amy Coney Barrett onto the Supreme Court and GOP Senators reelected.

The group announced TWO DAYS AGO it was throwing its support behind Loeffler and Purdue in Georgia. https://t.co/N7Wn6ABuNp

Charles Koch wants to sound like Rodney King: ‘Can’t we all just get along?’ Meanwhile, he’s trying to buy GOP control of the Senate in GA https://t.co/eRDLylyZXg

“Boy did we screw up!” is quite the playful way for Charles Koch to admit he helped break US democracy. https://t.co/alIGV7jNhP

Sounds like he's singing a rich man's version of "Nearer my G*d to Thee". His late brother must have knocked on his door wrapped in chains and oil cans last night after midnight.
